Clicking Noise from Front Passenger Wheel
When you are spinning one wheel is the other wheel on ground or in the air? Do you have 2 more jackstands? I feel perfectly save placing all 4 wheels in the air on solid jackstands and putting it in 4wd at idle, with the front tires off. You will need to bolt the front rotors . down somewhat with 2 lugnuts and some washers each or put the lugnuts on backwards if open on both sides. You are right..with better sound in the video..doesn't sound like u joints..thats a clickety fairly fast like a crushed beercan twisting back and forth. Bad wheel hubs are usually a thumping if you run it in the air...place in N for several seconds to verify wheels are stopped before going into P
My Xjs click a lot in the front
Check hubcaps with respect to wheel nuts !
To check a front u-joint, jack front end, rotate slow and careful, look and listen, get a pry bar in there, and pry each 1/4 turn. There must be NO free play
I would not change them out until I detected an issue, as the oil seal, especially on the long side, is a real risk of leaking after axle withdrawl.
Noises get worse, monitor
I DID change out my wheel hub/unit bearings recently. I wasted time swapping in used units I already had, no change.
Brand new el-cheapo, went away, did the other side, same brand, all quiet
That is what I would change when the noise gets worse, and there is no obvious symptoms, axle does not have to be withdrawn.
(There was no free play detectable at tyre)
My suspension mods/rebuild are proceeding well after 7 years ownership, (of this XCJ).
Still havent changed a single uni yet
