I am planning on building a motor to drop into my 01 xj and just bought a engine to start rebuilding.
Before i start tearing this down i would just like to confirm i am build the right block.
Part number on the block is #53010449. I checked and this says it is a block from 99-04. The block that i bought had the xj water pump on it and it does not have a distributor but the electronic cam sensor. This is the right block for my xj correct? Not a wj or tj block that is not interchangeable.
Clean off that flat surface on the Passenger side. It should have a date code stamped into it.
The digits of the code identify:
1. 1st digit - the year built ( 4 = 1994, etc. )
2. 2nd and 3rd digits - the month (01-12)
3. 4th and 5th digits - the engine type/fuel system/compression ratio
(MX = a 1986 to 2001 4.0L 8.7:1 compression ratio engine with multi-point fuel
injection system).
4. 6th and 7th digits - the day of the month of engine build (01-31).
