Default Anti theft cat converter

Guys mine was stolen in my driveway at 4 in the morn, super lit up, I heard the second cut and it hit the ground, I took off running for the front door armed and in my underoos. By the time I hit the patio you could hear them flying down the side street. Actually it was up my driveway and under my brightly lit car port.

so I e been researching the plates and cable locks and stuff. I’m not finding hardly anything on the XJs……….mines a 98 xj, what are my best options, being in CA, I have to have it…………any info and or part numbers anyone?

Since I am in CA, I can tell you that you are stuck on part numbers. You can't buy just any cat. It has to have the right CARB number on it or it won't pass. And it has to be visible to the inspector. And of course any CARB compliant part costs twice as much. In your situation, I would fabricate a under cat skid made of bar or pipe with plenty of opportunity for ventilation so the heat will dissipate. I would stay away from plates that would hide the whole thing

my bad, I meant I’m looking for part numbers and or ideas for anti theft devices, not that cat itself.

Whatever you end up with will have to be fabricated

While in no way cheap, this looks like it would make it more difficult to make the front cut, or at least provide a good starting point for something custom...

Hi there, Just wondering if you had any luck finding an anti-theft device. I had mine stolen night before last. A friend in the insurance business informs me that the perps often return and pull the new one too. Called a local muffler shop and they guy said, "purchase a device off the internet, bring it to me, and I'll install it." Like you, trying to find one that fits an XJ Cherokee (mine is 2001). Anyway, if you had luck (or anyone else knows a solution/type that will fit these) I would also greatly appreciate it.

There's another thread discussing this, i posted a couple of options there, not sure on effectiveness, just stuff I've seen, as this problem grows out of control.

Sounds like a perfect reason to create skid plates for the mid-section. Off-the-cuff, I believe every aftermarket crossmember I've ever seen for a 4-link rear setup looked like it would make getting to the CAT a horrid PITA...

Belly pan would definitely help, haha

I think someone could very easily just make a cover plate that bolts up to the uniframe rail with some nutserts and some kind of security hardware, or just tack weld one side of the bolt or something. Just spit balling... a laser cut and press braked plate that surrounds the cat, so basically a box with openings just large enough for the pipe to go through but too small to get the cat out.

I sent them pics of the first one stolen, I said send me a check and I will find my own mechanic, they sent me like 2600 bucks, mechanics charged like 700 with a new aftermarket flow master installed.

They are not worth anything to the thieves, so if it gets stolen again, it’s by rookies, and I get it replaced again.

. Hi, Sherriffs Department? I'd like to report that my catalytic converter was stolen, from my driveway, last night

SD:
Wow, sorry to hear that. We've had a huge problem with this lately. Is everyone okay?

VICTIM:
Yes, it happened in the middle of the night, came out to it this morning.

SD:
I see. Would you like to file a theft report?

VICTIM:
. Absolutely. Can you send someone out?

SD:
. Sorry, but due to call volume and short staffing, you can just file a report online, and someone will get back to you. Thanks for calling!

VICTIM:
Never hears from SD again
