Default Newbie Question - What is this?

Hey guys, putting my ego aside and asking for a simple answer... what is this wire that connects to the body of my jeep? I think its a ground, but for what? it broke off a while back from corrosion, wondering what it might effect. It's located just below the O in this pic

It is a grounding strap. It's unusual braid material, according to the manufacturer, is to help reduce radio-frenquency (RF) interference in the audio system. It can be replaced with any good wire, but it may not provide the same RF reduction that the braid does (I've never tested how effective it is, and don't use my radio all that often).

Awesome, thanks. I've noticed my radio has pretty much @#% the bed in the last two years. (might be due to some jerk who broke off my antenna too)
