Default Rear Seat with Head Rests

I am looking for a rear seat setup I can swap in that has head rests. We currently keep our kids in car seats in the old XJ cause there is no head support if there was an accident and we want to reduce the possibility of whiplash...

Is there anything that is an easy and direct bolt in. ZJ, WJ? What years are a ZJ or WJ?

Thanks.

The PO of mine had a machine shop build head rests. They tie into the seatbelt mounts and side seat release. I'll post a picture of it later for you.

There is a write up where someone installed rear headrests into the stock seat-back. Had to make brackets inside the seat-back to accept and support the rests.
Someone makes a full-width headrest for jeep back seats.
This could be a better idea and something that could be made too.
A Cargo Net and a firm cushion tied into it work for me. (no cushion in pics)

I can't still conceive that the quality of 95 96 jeep cherokees for domestic market is so low that even they don't come with a back seat headrest. the same product for international markets (well mostly) includes not only back seat headrests, but also much more options

hah..Automotive companies had seatbelts available for the American public LOOONG before they were required to be installed by law. I'm talking years. People just didn't want to pay the extra cost for them. I'm sure it was the same for the Cherokee. My '95 has no head rests either. Stupid. I'm going to make this update as well.

Same here. Have a lot of extra parts to possibly pull this off.

I swapped in a ZJ set of seats (front and rear). I liked the rear for the 60/40 split and the head rests were an extra bonus. Safety features in American cars are like everything else in this country, driven by regulation. Until there is a law requiring it, many people will not pay the extra cost.

Hit up the junkyards and look for imported models, a good number of them made their way back to the states. Itll make a direct bolt in at least.

My 95 import from Japan.

Of course if you find a black leather rear upper without headrests, ill happily swap you, lol. I hate it, cant fold the back seat down flat.

Would love it if we got some of those around here. I am going to try and use front headrests for the back. They are different though. Being thinner as I have seen and your picture illustrating the same. Worried that they might interfere with my full size spare. Fortunately I have extra parts so won't have to mess with the seat in the Jeep to see if I can pull this off. Having owned a Grand Cherokee before you need to remove the headrests to fold the seat down. Guessing you already knew that though.

Well I hope you are right but my 225 75 15 with a 5.9 Grand Cherokee tire cover is almost right up on the back of my rear seat. Thinking to position the headrest properly going to have to push it back so it will be hanging over the rear of the backseat. Why I wish I could find rear headrests from a foreign version XJ thinking being thinner would help. Then again too until I mock this up the headrest might not even be in a position to interfere with the tire at all.

If you check some other cars or suv's they have some that will fold back and if they did I think you would still be able to fold down the seat.

The WJ has rear headrests that fold down. It is also a 60/40 split.
