I got a little time to work on it today. Just about back together. Tomorrow should be the completion day, for the interior at least. Then new radiator and fill up the ac.
I got my headliner stuff finished. All the trim and visors, lights, etc. back in. I started putting in new rear speakers, but they don't fit right. I bought these:
and they're close, but it's going to take a different mounting hole. The screw-to-screw diameter seems off by 1/4 inch or so...
No sound from the radio, but I haven't gotten there yet. I only did the speakers since i had the roof apart and was hoping that was a quick fix while i was at it.
Did a compression test over the weekend and that went really well. All 6 cylinders were between 155 and 160. Would have changed the spark plugs while I was there but Autozone gave me the wrong ones, so probably tonight after work...
Man, it's hot as hell here. I'd rather be in a desert in 90 degree heat than here. The humidity makes it feel much hotter.
Been there twice so far (Deltona). Humidity wasn't at is best (worst?) either time. My son and his wife have been there ~3.5 yrs and like it down there a lot. Just bought a home in fact.
I worked black top for ~9yrs so I don't mind the heat. Humidity? It gets right up here to. I guess at some point I'll get to enjoy(?)Florida's best at some point.
I want to know what's worse, the XJ heater core or the 2nd gen S-10/Blazer heater core. I watched a roommate do that and told myself I'd never get one.
87-93 Mustang. Running joke here is that Ford started with a heater core, then built a car around it.
I drop the glovebox door, then cut an access hole in the heater box. Swap the core, epoxy the box back together. Saves me a nightmare, and saves the customer a fortune.
Well, after a few days of glorious air conditioning, the old condenser decided it was done playing along.
So round 2!
While i was in there i set up a relay system for the electric fan(long story), cleaned up some of the grounds, and cleared the old stored codes in the computer.
Well thank you... Waiting on hooking up the heater core lines until the new radiator goes in. Got to recharge the ac too since I had to split the lines to get everything out.
Last year at the All Breeds Jeep Show in York, PA, I listed my J10 for sale. I wrote $5,000 or best offer. A lot of people took down my information, but nobody followed up.
Sunday night, I listed my J10 for sale on Craigslist for $7,000 or best offer. Now (Tuesday morning) I have a $500 deposit, pending sale for $6k
I got the YJ's new Kenwood deck in the mail today, followed later on by my most recent Amazon order: an Optima battery tender and license plate covers for my commuter car.
I installed the KMR-M322BT, which meant re-splicing all the wires because Kenwood *finally* updated their connector after almost a decade. But the marine-grade digital media receiver is a nice departure from the full-size CD receivers I've used in the past. The whole unit is lightweight and has a mounting depth of less than 5". This means I no longer find myself struggling to jam wires into the back of the dashboard where they press against the heatsink.
While I was out there, I folder my windshield back up after a few weeks of it laying down. I popped the hood and installed my new 62mm bored throttle body from Mean Lemons (XJwonders). The machine work looks clean, everything is smooth, and there's no whistle on the butterfly. I wasn't able to take a real test drive due to rain, but the throttle response is definitely snappier than it has been in a while. I lost that low-end grunt when I installed a full 2.5" exhaust, but I think I've gained it back now that my intake can pull enough air to compensate.
I also hooked up the battery tender to the J10 so it'll be ready for the buyer when he comes to test drive it. If I had realized how cheap they are, I would've bought one much sooner to alleviate the concerns of whether or not it would start each time.
Spent part of the day PLUCKING foam from the firewall pad ( I must be mad), then another part chasing down why my dash lights were not working. I took my Digital Multi Meter, and put it on "continuity" to trace out all the dash light runs. I found a scotch clamp in one of the lines that was dead shorting to ground from the PO. Once I got that off of the line, and replaced the fuse every thing seamed OK? Will hook up all the parts (instrument cluster, switches, and all the new LED dash lamps to make sure it is OK).
Then I can retape all the looms.
Also a box from Quadratec came into today. So I just had to install my new door weather stripping, and paint the new door hinge bolts. Tomorrow the doors go back on.
SPAghetti Some of the loom re-taped. AHHHH! Nice new weather striping!
