That's just unreal. lol
The C4 except for the overfill issue, was probably the toughest auto trans ever built. One of Ford's shinier moments.
In fact all the issues that plagued the Bronco II C3 auto trans can be fixed by adding another clutch plate which turns it into a C4. The trans is tougher than the clutch pack on these. Another case of trying to save a few cents that went way wrong and cost the consumers millions.

The AW4 that I swapped into my Jeep for the 4wd conversion was presumed "no good" by the previous owner. Thanks to Lee's advice, I pulled the dipstick on the transmission and the fluid was brown. Swapped the transmissions, used my torque converter, NSS, and TCU, then drained the brown-as-motor oil transmission fluid out and put fresh fluid in. Shifted like a brand new transmission ever since.... new owner can vouch too!
Took the side trim off and heat gunned the flares. The side trim was pretty easy with the right stuff (3M adhesive remover wheel & goof off) The heat gun worked, but it's a bit splotchy in places. I think I'd inevitably like to paint match these flame red. Regardless, it's better than the old faded trim. I have a two-color scheme now instead of a three haha!
