I'm prepared for the "it's not a wrangler" and "that's not the right kind of jeep to do that" as long as the cops are cool with it I could care less. Cops seem to leave me alone, ive seen that if you drive properly they'll leave you alone for the most part. Exposed light bars are also illegal but nobody has ever stopped me or the misses for it in the past 4 years.
Cool setup! This one is straight off O'Reillys shelf lol.
Aint trying to get TOO deep, but racial profiling is a real thing. As the only white kid in a black neighborhood growing up, I got stopped ALOT. And harassed ALOT. Deserved at least 30% of the harassment, I was a smart mouthed kid. But a fair amount of it was ridiculous. They always asked me my business in the neighborhood... while holding my license.... that showed I was parked in my driveway.
You're right though, stay in the good parts of town, mind your manners and you'll be fine. I rolled around VB most of last summer as pictured above. No troubles.
I like the foot peg worked into that mirror setup.
Looks like 90 degree weather this Thursday so we'll be taking a trip out to Corolla Beach 4x4 Access. After memorial day they start charging to park on the beaches. $50 per week $150 per year. It kind of sucks but I understand that they want to preserve the beaches.
Drive a little further to Carova. It's free all year and not as crowded (town has no paved roads, so driving on the beach is considered driving on the road). Carova is the town just north of Corolla, where the black top ends. There are some decent "trails" around about mile marker 16.5. From your house to Carova is about 2.5 hours.
You're skipping the toll on 168 right? Go down Elbow to Centerville, Centerville to Battlefield, stay on old Battlefield and it ends at 168 a bit after the toll.
Looks like that is new for this year. Sorry to have given you bad information. I read the above site two weeks ago looking for other spots to play with the jeep in OBX, I've seen most all of Carova. The site has changed since then! Last year I went to Carova to skip the permit, looks like I'll get the permit this year.
I had some left over EMT so I made some better temporary brackets and I now have a passenger side as well
pay no attention to the fat man in the mirror lol
Didn't say adventurous, I said fun. I agree solo wheeling is adventurous. I go out alone quite a bit, never a dull moment. Especially adventurous when you have no cell signal.
