It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure it bolts under the trans mount or to it. There should be a pin welded to the pipe that slides into a tube with rubber inside it.
I believe that's how the older years were, the trans mount is too far back from where the hanger coming off of the pipe is once mounted to the manifold. I can't seem to find pictures online, would help a ton if someone to get a picture of where the mount is
This is what my mount looks like.
Sorry I forgot to mention it is a 4.0L, I've seen there is another style hanger with two bolt holes that looks to mount to the side of the trans but I can't seem to find a hole where my one bolt style hanger goes.. please if anyone has a 4.0L WJ that could slide under their rig and take a pic or at least check where its mounted I'd very much appreciate it.
Here's a thought! Go to a dealer and ask the parts guys! I'm sorry. I'm 73 yo and I ain't crawling under my beast just to take a picture. I've looked thru the FSM and the Haynes Manual and they don't bother to show it.

Well I guess if no one else could help me out that's what I'll have to end up doing.. I'm going to be working on it Monday, going to have to do some poking around. Thanks anyway.
4.0 with 42re transmission. Above rear passenger side of transmission pan is a tab that accepts exhaust down-pipe hanger as well as a rod that connects to bell housing. First picture right is forward, rod is attached under tab, hanger bracket on top of tab.

Sweet, thank you very much man! I was looking at that rod, did not know something went on top of it, should be a quick job Monday.
Sorry man. My knees are bothering me a lot lately and I guess I was a little hard on you. It's very hard for me to get up after going down.
Hey, it's ok. At least you were shooting me some ideas, I didn't think of going tothe dealer but I finally got some pics and explanation from SteveMongr, glad I joined the forum.
This is a little off topic, but you need to know. There's a great bunch of guys here and they are all willing to help, but this is an opinion based forum and not all answers are to be considered fact. I, for one, will never tell you something is fact unless I'm sure of what I'm talking about. I can give you opinions of what's wrong or send you looking to check something, but if it's just a guess, I'll tell you so.
After awhile, you'll get to know who the good guys are. Steve Mongr is one of the best and you notice how he stayed out of the conversation until I just about blew you off? Good man. When he DID get involved, he knew the right answer.
I replied after I had time to set up a light, take photos, plug camera into computer, transfer files, upload to forum, configure and type text.
I searched google images first but could not find anything. Glad to help out where I can.
Yes. Thanks Steve! I'm just a grumpy old man! I've done that kind of stuff before if it was under the hood, but crawling under it on a wet gravel driveway is beyond the call of duty, sorry to say!
It's at the top of the junction block under the dash, behind an aluminum steering column brace. A royal PITA to get to. It took me 30 seconds to remove it with channel lock pliers and 45 minutes to install the new one with my fingers! The FSM says to lower the junction block for easier access, but you have to pull the feed plugs and I refused to do that.
