Default Synthetic Blend High Mileage Oil?

My XJ has 208k on it. I've never had good luck with synthetic oils leaking in older engines. Guy at the parts store tried to tell me that that's what the synthetic blend oil was made for? I've always been told that the synthetic oils clean the engine and remove helpful buildup deposits and create larger tolerances and will loosen up parts, doing more harm? I just installed a new valve cover gasket, getting ready to do my rear main seal and oil pan gasket . I'd love to be able too switch to the synthetic blend oil . What do all of you think about it

you'll be fine with synthetic oils. If there is gunk "plugging" leaks, it will clean it and you may notice leaks after awhile, but just replace the seals.....PLENTY of members run synthetic oil here

I'm on my 3rd xj. I've noticed that on higher mileage motors fixing one leak usually causes another. Nothing to do with synthetic oils just higher engine pressures. Synthetic is probably the best thing you can do for your high mileage motor. If you spring a leak just fix it

So you were using synthetic? Did you get all of the leaks fixed, ever ? I always thought that the leaks begin shortly after switching an older engine that has always used conventional oil ? Did you notice a difference in the fuel economy ?

No on full synthetic. It's to expensive to be leaking out. But a synthetic blend is close to a full synthetic oil. My jeeps are always lifted and built so fuel economy is total crap. If your engine was taken care of it shouldn't be gummed up and blocking leaks that would other wise be leaking. Your engine will benefit from a synthetic or a blend either way. Like I said leaks will be caused from higher engine pressures after repairing your pan leak and rear main leak. At least this is my experience

The oil is blue and it says racing on the bottle. So it must be good. It's even got a new zinc formula that blows away the old one. It works for me and my needs and thats all that matters.

Put oil in your Jeep, change it at the correct intervals and dont worry about what's the best oil. Changing oil at the right time is more important then the oil used. That is my 2 cents.

And...

So if you live on the North Pole you probably don't want want a 20w-50.

A 5w-20 would much better suit you.

Oil thread in a nutshell, choose the oil viscosity best suited for your ambient temperature. There's charts in the owners manual for that stuff, LoL.

You wanna pour Rotella in your Jeep, but why?
Something must be wrong.

Sythetic oil leaks out of your engine?, I bet conventional does too.

Once again, something must be wrong.

Synthetic doesn't cause leaks. I've made the switch on a few high mileage 4.0s.

that said, just use Rotella T4 and a good filter like Wix.
