I know this is good protocol but technically I trust no one. But for the sake of safety, pretty sure I am going with the remote spot, somewhere near the junction of 88 (paved) and 80 (dirt). 80 is the road to Fish Creek Canyon. Amazing scenery out there.
Yeah, not going crazy far out there, just a one-night trip.
I'm used to what my wife and I go do. lol 30-40 miles from a main road is normal for us. A dead battery is our greatest fear so we take an 80 watt panel when we go out his far.

Well remember that I just got this Jeep a few months ago. I figure I have a few thousand bucks worth of replacement parts and then a few spare parts to carry with me before I will trust it completely on long trips. Summer time usually means lots of overtime at work. I sure hope so, I could use the cash for stuff like this.

Yep, that's what it takes. Be prepared as the Boy Scouts say. It really has saved our butts several times.

I am moving towards camping overland style out of the XJ. It has been like this up till now, except we have outgrown the XJ now and need to use the pickup to haul all the camping gear. Takes too much time to set up
My trip was a bust. Bummer. Had some things to do in the morning so I didn't get going until the afternoon. My first choice of camping spot, based off of Google Earth, was a no-go. Got half way down the dirt road and then there is a sign that says it is government property, no trespassing. UGH. So I check my 2nd choice spot, someone is already camped there, checked my 3rd choice, someone is there, tried to find a spot on top of the mountains, WAY, WAY too many cactus in this area. If I had camped there I could not have walked more than 5 feet from my Jeep. Drove around looking for a good spot til almost 7pm and then decided to abort and go home. Then this morning I headed for the top of the Goldfield Mountains to catch the sunrise and I was about 15 minutes too late. UGH again!!! Still got a few pics, which I will share.

It's to protect cultural sites. It's unfortunate that in our current culture this might be needed. Vandalism is the "in thing to be cool" with the latest two generations. What really bothers me about this is that sign probably cost the government and taxpayers a $1000 or more per copy.
