Drove the Comanche a good bit today, still stumbling around 2000 rpms. I keep doing little things to it hoping maybe I'll find what the issue is. When I had the windshield replaced they knocked the mirror off and cracked it so they replaced that today, and I got a new rear view mirror and battery tie down at the junkyard today. It feels like the fuel filter is clogging up again so I might try and drive it till it's lower on gas and drop the tank and clean it out. I also got another infinity Audio plug so I can take the Cherokee doors off and keep the power features. Running out of money and time to figure the Comanche out and get the door hinges fixed on the Cherokee.
I had a really strange issue when I bought my current xj. I had erratic high/ low idling and stumbling. I only found it by using my buddies code scanner and recording and graphing the sensor readings. It turned out to be the heating element inside the O2 sensor was shorting out. I had no check engine lights on.

I hear ya, my winch (xmas gift) is assembled and sitting on my bench waiting to be installed. I may pull the nose into my garage and drop the door down on the hood and turn on the portable heater. I'll see how I feel tomorrow...

Still on stands in the shop.
Pulled the 3.07 out of the rear slapped in guts from a 3.55's changed the front axle months ago.
For all the naysayers this is the 4th XJ I'm done this on.
No new parts.
Make sure you keep shims on the correct side, and pinion is easy.
Hit it with the impact for about a second, spin, it is got play forward and back, tighten some more.
one the forward and back play is gone, work on the preload.
if you've ever did wheel bearings on an old Ford or Chevy, its no different, same type bearings.
I tighten mine where I give it it a spin turns about 3/4 turn.
Slap the carrier in, with the stock shims from the donor in the correct sides and torque the bolts down i use 60 ft lbs...
Give it a feel for slack twisting the yoke will find its as close as it was from the donor axle.
Call me crazy, don't care, run over 100k on last one, and my boy 150k on his.
Happy New Year.
Can't reassemble the thing till tomorrow, had to order inner axle seals.
Then to get fluid to the back brakes again, been 5 years since they worked.

But having said that, its 11 am, 65 degrees out, not one cloud in the sky and perfect to wash a few vehicles. Happy new year everyone, if you need me, ill be outside working on the Jeeps and blasting some music.
