Not really sure how much he will charge, I think for me he is just looking for someone to come hang out at his place and enjoy some company that shares the same type of hobbies...Well he does not 4x4 at least not a Jeep but we both have Diesels we talk about all the time. So I will find out but I need to get mine built first. I'm a little confused on the part you said you don't want an explanation, just interior? Assuming you meant something else by that?

I like the indo as well but I really love the looks of the ones on the outside! Bugout4x4 did you say you were getting another XJ? Or already got one?

XJIrish, mods will be something similar to the pic I posted for ugly but doable in mods, and also tubbing the rear, posted I believe on first page of this thread. If not, I will update

I guess I will have to back track in this thread and take a look at what you want. I will let my buddy know but we are both stuck on this ship in the pacific right now so nothing either one of us will be doing until we get back to Washington which is soon! Likely all the fab work will start after Christmas and New Years though so a winter project for sure.

That's a problem Dave and I talked about and I don't like about these. They have no inside latch for the rear hatch.

Looking for another one to put this new motor in. This is twisted too much, the subframe is also twisted so it is no longer square.

Well maybe not... Thinking back to when my best highschool friend and I built a whole subframe/rollcage for a Baja Bug body and bolted a front wheel drive Toronado V-8 and transaxle in the back of it.

This one I have already just might become a full frame and caged swamp (XJ shaped) buggy with XJ sheet on it. Now all that matters before drawing it up is where all the VIN numbers are stamped.

Are you planning on driving it on the roads? Who cares about VIN # if you going to just do a buggy with it. Unless like I said you drive it on the road but then again I don't know what your state laws are even offroad.

It needs to be street legal. At that point I will have to insure it. To get insurance it will have to comply with all DOT VIN regs.

Mating square is much easier than round, and it is stronger in a smaller profile size.

Wound aerodynamics be the problem? Aesthetics? why not?
Without getting to much into it...

- Weaker than tube
- Hangs up on stuff
- Looks like utter crap

- Weaker than tube: Not quite true... 2" thickwall is just as strong or stronger as 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 lightwall round they use, especially at the weld points.

- Hangs up on stuff: Anything on the outside is going to hang up on stuff.

- Looks like utter crap: Anything on the outside is going to look odd and like crap. Who cares? it's meant to be functional and practical not eye pleasing. Just like Camouflage paint.
