A forum buddy emailed me the link to that. That is nuts. Nothing special about it. Wheels obviously been painted. Thinking bumper caps and door molding too. Was wondering about the driver's power seat. Never seen on in a Jeep with no options, to speak of, that had a one piece bucket. Nothing wrong will doing all that but still can't picture a $14,500 price tag. Even with 81,500.
At least it's been modified and has had a ton of money put into it. I wouldn't have paid that for it, but the BAT XJ wasn't even a good example of a time capsule. Crappy spray painted Canyon wheels, KJ steering wheel, trim that appeared to be spray painted, sagging butt, and the infamous "no picture of the side of the driver's seat, because you know damn well it's ripped". I'm sorry, but the phrase "more money than sense" comes to mind.
Edit, I take back the comment about the seat. The video shows it's in good condition. Still, $14.5k?
A new Durango starts at $30k on up, a Ford Explorer that Car & driver rated 3 out of 5 is $31k+, a Four Runner $35k+, etc. Then you'll have to gussimate how much of your time and money you'll be sacrificing for warranty issues and what not.
A more than likely reliable used vehicle that doesn't require most to have to obtain financing for $15k like that is a good deal, all comes down to supply & demand. Just shows you how worthless our dollar has become.

None of those will have 80k+ miles on them and be 20 years old though. Regardless of the shape of that XJ (IMHO it is not even in that great of shape) it's going to cost money to maintain. A person that fits the profile of a typical new car buyer will need to have everything worked on by a mechanic for a car like that. That gets expensive quickly. I bought my one owner XJ for $900. Since then: new paint, tires, floors, and it looks just as good as that one. I would be lucky to get $3k for it, and that's all it's worth.

Though, I will say I live in a NYC suburb and randomly get asked about selling my XJ.
On guy lives around the block and wanted it for his daughter who was going to college. Another guy wanted it for winter. Funny thing was he came up to me when I couldn't get it started because of the NSS.
And lately I count 4 really nice XJs in a 5 mile radius of my house. Lifted, with roof racks, and good paint. I think the trend is making well-cared for XJs valuable as a show-off vehicle.

I recently witnessed a 2003 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 that looked in great shape with like 49,000 miles on it sell on eBay auction style for $22,000. And I had to read it twice. That's almost what it sold for new in '03. I guess some people in this world have way more money than sense. Again, nothing special... just a couple people going nuts.
