I don't disagree with that.... however, just speaking for myself only... even if I was rolling a 7 figure income, I personally still couldn't see paying far more for something than it's worth. A little bit extra to get one that has been either cared for, low miles, rust free, etc.... but not going out and paying literally double the value.
The XJ I got for myself was low miles, 1 owner, and virtually entirely rust free.. and I didn't pay 1/3rd of that one. It needed a few normal maintenance things, but still made it good value for the price I paid... to me.

Sometimes value can be a bit subjective to some... so I'm not knocking your point... this is just where I was coming from.

oh come on man don't lie. If your making a million a year, you're buying a 5k xj for 15 just because you can.

If one were to ask seven different people what "a lot of money was" they would receive seven different answers. How one handles their finances also comes into play.

^^ honestly... no... but I would still buy the XJ for 5k and put exactly into it what I wanted to have for an awesome build.

^^ very true statement. Same thing goes for how a lot of people classify the condition of a vehicle when selling it. That part drives me nuts. It doesn't have to be subjective, but the masses always seem to make it that way. When it's really easy to classify into what truly is excellent, good, average, poor, and basically project car status. lol.

Suuuurrrreeeeee. If you went into an auction like how this thread stated and saw a nice jeep, you're paying extra and outbidding everyone because you have the means... it's ok I would too

I mean not in a private sale you wouldn't go extra, but at an auction you're not letting it go over a few thousand haha

if I was sure it was THE example I wanted... yeah I'd probably go a little extra..but not super overboard.
Besides.... I don't think I'd ever buy another vehicle that way. Not unless the seller was close enough for me to physically go look at it.
mine is pretty rust free with just the normal small surface amounts on the axles and such, is also straight, original, and runs strong. But was not without it's needs.
The front end linkage was pretty tired and needs tie-rod ends, track bar, and such replaced. Got all the parts today... so that will be the next order of business.
Do I regret getting it? No... I've wanted an XJ for a long time now... and the body on this one is pretty good shape and that's getting harder to find and in completely stock condition. And only 96k on the clock... especially considering production on the XJ stopped 16 years ago now.
It's a bit more work up front then I was wanting/expecting, but it'll be sweet when I get it in the condition I want it to be in, and the mods too.

80k miles and mint is UNHEARD of with XJ.
That is why it got such a high price.
Find another XJ with 80k miles or less.

Bought my 1996 two years ago with 49k on the clock. Paid a premium for that.

I bought a 99 (4) years ago, with 33k, for 6grand. Pretty much fair Nada market value. That thing is junk, someone was a sucker.

most recent few posts here I think really reflect the values that those years and miles are starting to go for now. I had to go out of my area to find a rust free and unmolested XJ. And that's the ball park I paid for my 99 as well. It's needed a little TLC maint. but overall a good, fair deal I think. Especially considering what new vehicles sell for now days.....I think "paid for" and "holding the title" to a vehicle has a real nice "ring" to it for me..... besides, it leaves more for maint. and mods right? Which is what I think most of us Jeep owners on here are fans of.
