Replaced the Evaporator over the weekend because it was leaking, also replaced the heater core as well as the AC Accumulator. Let the system sit with a vacuum on it for an hour after everything was reassembled, it held fine. Charged the system, it worked for about 2 days, and now the compressor is short cycling. Started looking for a leak and found one it appears on the line running from the accumulator to the compressor.

Now, my question is in regards to the gaskets/orings supplied with the accumulator. The factory setup just had the O-ring. Nothing else. So that's what I installed it with. Apparently that was incorrect with this new accumulator?

They ship this one with Orings in addition to these little metal gaskets. Do I use the metal gasket in conjunction with the oring? Has anyone dealt with this style before? I've never seen a metal gasket like this used along with an oring, but maybe I'm wrong.

Any help would be appreciated, it was 93 here today with dewpoints in the low 70's lol.

 

And another question, if you do use those little metal gaskets, what do you do with the tabs that go over the studs? Just bend them over or break them off?

 

Can ya use both. Just push them down little tab will hold it in place if working upside down.

 

You mean use the metal gasket along with the O-Ring?

I could do that yeah, just didn't know if that's how it was intended to be installed?

 

Is there a groove for o ring on line cant find a picture of a line . What year is it ?

 

I don't think there's a groove, I can check when I pull it apart again, I was just wanting to leave it sealed until I'm ready to fix it so as not to ruin the accumulator. It's pretty muggy here currently in central IL. It's a 2001

 

When I replaced my A/C components I slathered Nylog Blue over all the junction parts.

All has been good.

 

Wingless, interesting. I don't think i've actually ever heard of Nylog Blue, but after a quick google search, it seems that it at least shouldn't be harmful in any way to the system. I'm usually apprehensive about stuff like that that wasn't needed from the factory.

 

Just ordered some of that Nylog blue, after some more research it's compatible to use with R134a systems, will give that a try as well when it goes back together as far as lubing o-rings.

 

No groove it takes gasket..Id bet these are what seals it...

 

Yeah, the odd thing is, those are not the gaskets that were supplied with the accumulator. I did see those too with the other block style accumulator that came on some jeeps, mine is the flat top version.

The factory lines when they came off had O-rings, but no gaskets.

These new metal gaskets, the one's in my first post, seem to have a little groove in them that perfectly fit the two larger o-rings supplied... I'm "assuming" here that I'm suppose to use both the metal gaskets, in addition to the supplied o-rings?

 

With out seeing actual end off line I cant confirm either way. As long as it seals dont matter whats used. Ive enen used metal ones with a o ring all made together.
