Default Roof Rack

Building a roof rack,I have existing roof rack rails but not sure whether to use those or rain gutters for mounting it, not sure which would hold more weight. Please leave suggestions and best mounts. Thanks

Gutters are much stronger. The factory rails are rated at "150lbs distributed evenly between the two."

Four gutter mounts is typical, six would be better.
I've always though of building a mount that went the entire length of the gutter.

Now if that isn't a knock off of a Olympic 4x4 Top Hat rack I don't know what is.

Yes that's exactly what I did, they were very easy to work with and shipped quickly. I really wonder if it might have been cheaper to buy the whole rack and mount then just resell the rack and keep the rest. I did get all the hardware for the mount also.

You would be surprised at how much they protect my XJ from tree limbs and small trees on the trail as they stick out past the body a little. I also made a clip to go on one that holds down my 102" whip for the CB radio that is mounted on the rear bumper. The mount does have mounting tabs for lights front and rear both.

I would have bought a rack if I could have found one like that was made the way I wanted it to be for all I wanted it to do, so as the saying goes.........

Anyone know if the Olympia Gutter Mount system will support a RTT?

I used the jcr mounts. My rack is 48x72 which is pretty close to as large as you can make it. You could maybe do 50-52 wide but have to do something different with there mounts. Also with these you can mount the roof rack as low as you fancy.
