Fighting with me about headlights is like picking an oil fight with Salad. I'd like to see you take your position to somewhere like CandlePowerForums or another venue full of true lighting geeks/experts. You'd be laughed right off of the internet.

Don't take it so personally man, nugget-busting happens here. People are very opinionated here, that's a good thing. Lot of good folks here.
But suggesting anything illegal in any way will open the floodgates, don't sweat it. I asked if another member had cut out cats, and I got reamed, lol.
It happens.

Agreed. We are all just a messed up bunch of folks here. Why do you think we all love our XJs (and some GCs)? Not just any normal person can do that. But at the same time, dont come in here posting like you know everything. Thats when the riot of forum members hits as you can see. Anyways, if you do stick around, you will learn to like these people. They are full of knowledge and love joking around!

The problem is that it's NOT an opinion. You can't just say we disagree and that we have different opinions when the subject of the debate is something that can be (and has been) demonstrably settled with empirical data.
I don't mean anything as a personal attack, but when you're spreading bad information and especially suggestions that flirt with the line of legal/illegal, I'm not going to sugar coat things especially when I've been on the life-flash-before-eyes receiving end of this particular unsafe and illegal practice (improper headlight configuration). I'm going to be as blunt and to-the-point as I can because I'm not interested in anyone being unclear about what I'm trying to convey.

The ECE Truck-lites are significantly better than the DOT ones--better distribution with fewer hotspots and artifacting. They need to be special ordered. DOT TL's are available from numerous automotive stores online and Amazon and probably a bunch of other places.

I didnt even know they had 2 different versions. I have the DOT ones. What is the main difference between them? Different bulbs? Different reflector design? Would it be worth it to switch or its not a huge difference?

ECE TL's distribution is smoother (fewer hotspots and artifacts) and a little wider iirc. That's the main practical difference; there are other less obvious differences, but they're relatively unimportant. The DOT ones are still quite good. I wouldn't tell you to switch to ECE if you already have the DOT TL's. If you really wanted to, I'm sure you could do so at little cost since you could easily sell your DOT TL's off given the high demand.

Thanks for the info! If you were to say it is a big difference, I would do the swap. But if its just a minor difference with the hot spots and the artifacts (this is the part that drives me crazy right now but...), I can deal with what I have. Thanks for all your lighting knowledge. I might have to go on Candlepower and see how lost I can get.

-harness
-H4 housings
-H4 bulbs
I used the Putco harness, which was super easy. I spent the extra coin and bought the Cibie headlight housings which are amazing. Awesome beam pattern. Paired those with some stock wattage Osram bulbs and they've served me well for awhile now.
