Use money you would use to mod this jeep and buy an xj.
Made an angle iron mounting plate for my tractor supply tool box. Mounts to the factory spare tire bracket holes, one hole in the front that clears the fuel tank and two bolts in in the back near the back seat. Super sturdy and should hold plenty of tools. Just need to get some foam drawer liners, magnetic socket organizers, etc.
Eventually going to integrate it into a rack in the cargo area.

[QUOTEAlso damned up my cowl to make sure no front passenger puddles after rain

tell us about this. is that where mine got flooded and rusted??[/QUOTE]
There is a common gasket of sorts that fails and let's water in. Some people remove the wiper cowl, cut a hole, fix the gasket, and put everything back together. Or you can do what he did so water doesn't get to the gasket.
To answer your question, the only one that can answer that is you. Poor some water down the cowl and check it out.
DON'T OVERTIGHTEN IT. You'll crack that pretty new thermostat housing in two
I wont!!! Thats what I was afraid of when I replaced the tstat housing in my jeep a couple years ago but it was all good (this is my sister's xj). Any idea of the torque specs?

Sure! So I believe in the 97+ the outside air intake lacks a reliable gasket all the way around the hole in the cowl so when the XJ is parked nose up and it rains water gets in and then pools on the passenger side front floorboard. Its happened to me on several occasions so I decided to block it up based on what I saw in another thread. Ill link it below!
Here are a couple pics from that thread showing the faulty gasket and where the water gets in from.
I saw that everyone was cutting their cowls up to get to the bad seal and I didnt want to do that. A later poster said he just damned it up to prevent the water ever getting there in the first place and said it worked so I figured what the heck
Today I put new headlight in the jeep, as long as I had it apart, put anti seize on the screws and dielectric grease on the contacts; did the other side as well. Found the 10 wire connector behind the drivers’ headlight and took that apart to put something on that. Don’t confuse the tubes of stuff, cleanup is hard. Cleaned and grease on the direction bulbs as I had to take them out to get all the headlight basil screws out. Programmed two new ignition keys from Amazon.

Tighten till you hear a crack, then back off a quarter turn
