I mean, you're not keeping your jeep on jack stands for months at a time or replacing 75% of your rotted floor but this is an acceptable build thread. Ha, looks good man, always like a honest review on products after their use and not just after the box opening. Good luck with figuring it all out.

 

I had a container of them in my hand at the store... was about to walk out of the aisle when I saw at the bottom corner "bio-degradable"

So I went back and got a different container. Pretty much the same as the one in the picture with "MARINES" on it, but Crosman changed the packaging and it doesn't say marines anymore... I was kinda bummed, but as long as it works well, whatever.

lol.... well, it's not on jackstands - YET! Being as it's assuming DD duties, and will for another few months, there's no jackstanding in this thread yet.

 

Installed the new 136amp alternator and XJWonders cable upgrade.




Military style terminals are BEEF!



Ground to firewall and to engine block.



Gound to engine block, fused lead from PDC to alternator.



Battery hot to starter.



Battery hot to PDC. Hot leg from PDC to fused lead to alternator.

Also ditched the K&N Intake for the factory airbox. Plan on doing the cowl snorkel eventually. The K&N had to be removed to get to the belt tensioner screw on the PS pump, so I figured since I was already going to go this route, may as well swap it now.


One question though - does anyone know if you still have to have the 2 60amp fuses for the alternator in the PDC? I tested the power going to the original alternator lead and it still shows 12v power going to it with either one installed... but I don't want to screw up the ECU's control over the alternator if I remove those fuses without needing to.

 

It's backfeeding from the new input source. You choice - I left mine in there because...no reason to remove them

 

K... only reason I'm concerned with it is I have a hot wire connected to NOTHING. I've "capped" it off with a piece of rubber hose and electrical tape, but I don't want to leave anything to chance. I think I'll remove them and see how things work.

 

Well... didn't really get ANYTHING I wanted done this week - especially a bummer because Jeeptoberfest was fast approaching.

I had PLANNED on:
Wednesday:
-Finding bushings and sleeves for my LCAs
-Installing LCAs
-Replacing the timing belt and water pump in my wife's car that afternoon
Thursday/Friday
-Replacing oil pan gasket
-Replacing oil filter adapter gaskets
-Replacing valve stem seals
-Finishing up painting interior trim and reinstalling
-Installing my new center console
-Removing my tires, taking out the Tyre Beads, and inserting airsoft BBs instead
-Finishing up my light bar
-Attempt to get my new door wiring figured out and put the new doors on.

What ended up happening instead:
Wednesday:
-Couldn't find any bushings nor sleeves at any autoparts store -OR- off-road supplier in town (what a joke!)
-Wife's car started overheating on the way home so I also grabbed a thermostat and housing gasket for it to replace those.
-Replaced the timing belt but kept having to remove and compress the hydraulic timing belt tensioner because the cams kept going back out of time after the tensioner finally would extend. Started at about 5pm, got done at probably midnight.
-Replaced the thermostat and housing gasket. Not very easy to get to... started at about midnight, finished about 4 am. Talk about a long day.
-Still overheating Going to have to pull the heads now
Thursday:
-Ended up getting about 6' of scrap .5" poo pipe and making my own inserts for the bushings and installing them.
-Installed LCAs (win)
-Was so tired from the night before (and had my kids home with me) that I didn't have the energy to do much else.




Still need to replace the bushings, but they'll be okay for now.



All installed and lookin' sexy!


Friday:
-Got a late start to the day because I was working on lawn stuff
-Removed my valve cover to replace the valve seats. Realized that in addition to needing the spring compressor (which I had), I also needed an air valve holder... fills the cylinder with compressed air to keep the valve UP when you compress the spring.
-Reinstalled valve cover and discovered a completely severed injector wire in the process... of course the wire broke off RIGHT AT the plug. Luckily, I still had MOST of the wiring from the '96 so I robbed an injector plug from it and spliced it in.
-Loaded up items needed for the show, AND the dashboard for OutlawStar.

Snapped some pics of the 246K valve train. Looks pretty good except for the obvious oil-stained surfaces and some mild carbon buildup here and there:

 

Saturday:
-HEADED TO JEEPTOBERFEST AND DIDN'T CARE ONE BIT ABOUT NOT GETTING EVERYTHING DONE!!!!

Didn't get a whole lot of pics from the show... was too busy driving around and coordinating rides with passengers.

The two goobers in the back rode w/ me on my second run. They're all big XJers... so the two of them had a good laugh making fun of all the Wranglers that were struggling on obstacles that we were literally just crawling up.



My buddy's jeep he just got. This was taken yesterday when he was still on stock shocks and brake lines. Anxious to see how he does today with new stuff.

Yeah, I get it. Makes sense. Yours had a lot of headaches to deal with plus you've got vehicles that are workin' out better for you now.

 

yea except i havent driven the 4runner in a while so it needs a jump lol.

 

lol... thought that was the wife's ride.

 

We sold her liberty a while ago. she drives the Jetta if and when she actually needs to go anywhere, which isn't very often. the 4runner is mine actually lol we'll be getting her a mustang or an older TDI when the 2010 TDI gets bought back in Nov.

 

*GASP* Not a crowd killer!!!!

Anyway, didn't know she had a libby... only knew about the WJ and then the 4runner... well, I forgot about the Jetta... so there's that.
