120 bucks is a little steep for something with a "Jeep" logo on it though. It's 350 brand new, sure... but a brand new Weber camping grill is 50 bucks.

I don't think they are drive-on all the time, just for the event that week. I would by that grill in 2 seconds if I didn't have a million other things to buy. Pretty damn cool looking.

Interesting. Well you know how that is. You get robbed at the retail store because you're too lazy to shop around for a better price for something you want, so you try and save face by coming up with a story. More than likely, that was the price at the dealership... and he was dumb enough to purchase it there.


So I'd been wanting a better way to mount/store my Hi-Lift jack other than throwing it in the cargo area. Plus, I plan on building a subwoofer enclosure to fit in that space, so I really needed it out of there. I had been pondering mounting it to the front bumper ever since I put the black one on my Jeep because of the 1/4" angle iron tabs that were welded to the front of it for off-road lights. I just knew that I would have to put some longer bolts on there to make it work though.

So I cut the bolts off that were welded to the top of the brackets, then drilled a 1/2" hole through them. I bought a pair of 3" long 1/2"x13 bolts, put them through the holes and welded 'em up.

I still had a bunch of 1/2" pipe left over from making my bushing sleeves, so I cut some to the length I'd need for some stand-offs and added a couple of square (well, rectangular really) washers for a "platform" that fits nicely into the channel on the jack's bar. Welded all the way around on the bracket at washer. Made a pretty good "pedestal" for the jack to sit on.

Finished it off with a HiLift brand Versa Lok ****. Cost about 25 or 30 bucks, but it's about the only method of "anti-theft" that made sense to me with this method of mounting.

Pretty please with the results, overall. Sticks out a little far, but I think I might be able to get away with flipping it. Not quite sure yet. Side benefit, I have something guarding my headlight and turn signals from minor corner impacts... ya know kinda like the sapling that flung up and took out my turn signal lense after I cut the bent up bumper down to a stubby.... yeh... that.

It just occurred to me that I forgot to mention that I was going to gusset the tabs, but ran out of time and daylight. Didn't want to bother the neighbors doing more cutting and grinding. If I still need to add them in later, I can.

Gussets are probably a good idea. No concerns with blocking the turn signal too much? Looks good.

Doesn't seem to block it that much more than a pre-runner bumper would. I had thought about that though. If I see it being a problem, I'll just flip the jack around. The underside of the jack mechanism is flat and doesn't stick up as much.

HAHA!!! I can definitely relate to that man. I was beginning to think that was the theme of mine as well. Then, things just kinda fell into place and the "speed" of the build amped up a little.
