Question RHD 4.0 A/C Delete Pulley ?

I've been digging around the net trying to find out if Dorman or any other mfg. has an A/C Compressor Delete Kit - aka A/C Bypass Pulley. I know Dorman has P/N 34237 but can't confirm that it will fit the RHD 4.0l engine.
(The compressor is mounted on the lower rh corner as viewed standing in front of vehicle.) Has anyone ever installed a Bypass pulley on a 2000 4.0l RHD Cherokee?

Thanks !!

Welcome to CF!

The compressor is mounted in the same place on the LHD 4.0 Grand Cherokees as well. Most of these bypass pulleys don't last long but some people say you can run a shorter belt. IDK because I haven't tried that yet. My Chevy truck had a cheap Chinese one in it when I bought it and it was the first thing I had to fix. My buddy got me a GM retrofit part that lasted until I got rid of the truck.

Hey thanks for the reply,, Somehow I managed to mess up my post and realize now I made a mistake posting it in the wrong section, It shouldn't be in Grand Cherokee as the vehicle I'm working with is a Cherokee which for some reason moved the compressor down to the bottom right corner (as viewed from front) on RHD models.
I'v been digging around a little online and I believe the Wrangler 4.0 LHD have the A/C Compressor in the same lower right side, (correct me if I'm wrong) but the Dorman 34237 lists as a part that fits that model as well as Cherokee .. hummm ??
This is how I believe the mounting of the compressor goes. Can anyone confirm if this is correct and if the 34237 will fit RHD Cherokee?
  • 2000 Cherokee 4.0 LHD Top Left - lists as using Dorman 34237
  • 2000 Cherokee 4.0 RHD Lower Right - (I assume Dorman 34237 will fit)
  • 2000 Wrangler 4.0 LHD Lower RIght - lists as using Dorman 34237
Thanks again , appreciate any input from all these wise Jeep Fans here

Okay, AFAIK, the delete pulley mounts on the same bracket that mounts the compressor, using the same bolt holes. The one on my Chevy used just the 2 front mounting holes and the pulley was the same size as the compressor one. The cheap one was a sheet metal frame to hold the pulley bearing and the OEM part was cast aluminum. Also the cheap one used a plastic pulley and the OEM used a metal one.

Thanks again for the reply, its always good to hear some feedback.
As I dont have the vehicle in front of me I'm stabbing in the dark on this one.
It's good to hear your input in that the bypass pulley assembly bolts up to the oem compressor mount which makes sense to me and makes me wonder why Dorman says 34237 will Not work on a RHD drive Cherokee 4.0 and they don't build one for a RHD. Do they know that for sure i wonder?? Maybe it will work ???
I'd love to see a photo of one installed..

I'm only telling you what I experienced with my '87 Chevy small-block V8. IDK about the ones for jeeps, but I'm guessing they are pretty much the same.

Why not go to a junkyard and look for an XJ (Cherokee) that doesn't have A/C and see what the belt routing is. You may be able to just get a shorter belt.

Hi I know this is an old thread but I was wondering if you ever figures this out? I have a 2000 Rhd Cherokee and I am using the Dorman 34237 and the pulley is rubbing the radiator hose.

Is the pulley on upside down?
