After submerging the driver side of my 87 XJ Larado up to the top of the wheel wells and an extended recovery effort, I've been sorting out the resulting electrical issues. In particular, I had to go in and replace the factory 10-pin connector outboard of the air box.

As it stands right now, I've got 8 wires in the 10-pin: headlights, turn signals, parking lights (same bulb as turn signals), marker lights, and fog lights. It looks like there were two other circuits in the connector at one point.

The previous owner had definitely bubba'd up the wiring pretty bad, as the passenger turn signal socket was replaced, and the wires connected by twisting the ends together and wrapping in electrical tape.

So, now for the question: How many wires are actually supposed to go through that connector? Can anyone identify what two circuits, if any, are missing? Looks like pins number 1 and 9.

 

This is why you only cut/splice/join one wire at a time.

 

Sound advice, especially since that is precisely what I did. The new weather pack connectors are nice and shiny, by the way.

No, those wires were missing when I got there. Again, previous owner bubba'd a lot of stuff... hell, the horn is wired direct to a button under the dash.

That same plug was used on a dozen different models, maybe fog/driving lights or other accessories that your model doesn't have.

 

Can't you just plug the connectors in and determine which wire would be which?

 

That's the thing, it looks like there were wires in those spots before I bought the vehicle. It looks like they burned out previously. No wires are present to replace the empty holes with.

My gut tells me that one of them is the horn... why? The PO bubba'd up a horn that consists of a wire from the battery to the horn to a button screwed into the dash under the steering wheel to a ground. It would make sense that the horn in run in the same harness as the headlights, since they are located near each other.

I was really hoping someone might know what those pin numbers in that particular connector went to on their 88-ish XJ, if anything, so I could get an idea of where to start looking for the missing wires.

But, I seem to have restored the functionality I had pre-flood, so at worst it's a wash.

I have the diagrams. It would take some time to figure out what color wires go where.

 

There will be more from the engine plug (female end, I think), they were for fog light packages. I deleted my plug the same time I did my harness upgrade and noticed the same thing. I just covered those ends with a small piece of tape and heat shrink. My horn was definitely not in my harness but it is a different year, if your horn is rigged up it could be something in the button. In your initial post you make no mention of a ground, could that account for one of the wires.

The horn wiring doesn’t go through the light connector in my 88 manual.
Here is my schematic of the horn wiring.

 

I just my broken header for the front end and I noticed my 10pin connection for the headlights turns and fogs is Corroded and I want to replace it now anyone have an idea where I can order a new one. I no I might have to cut and splice the wires but I'm not worried about that.

 

 

I have an '87 Renix. Where is this located? I can't find this connector.
