32" tires with STOCK suspension..yes you can
I got great deal on a set of 255/75/r17 aprox (32'') wheels and tires 90% threat.
i havent swap it under my XJ yet... and thats why I'm floating around here.
Im definitely going to need a lift kit, backspace adapters (wheels are form a JK), and probably some trimming if i decide for a 3.5 lift. i want to make sure i pick the wright setup before is to late.
I think the street look works for some vehicles but IMHO XJ's perform and look better with smaller wheels and bigger rubbers.

Not wanting to state the obvious but what is the point of this thread? You can easily do 35" tires with LOTS of trimming and droop suspension at stock height. It's not a unknown fact that larger tires can fit stock with trimming involved. Now if you were to add 32" with NO trimming and stock height, then I'd be impressed.

Yeah, lol..i didn't want to lift. I guess the point of the thread was I didn't find anybody else who had to put these tires on stock suspension, and I like the way it looks so I wanted to post pictures... as you can though, a whole lot of people don't agree with it...
What did you have to do with your front wheel liners? I am getting ready to trim my front bumper end-caps (only 30.5" tires), and I am worried that once on the road the liners may rub too. Trying to avoid a hack-a-thon, and encouraged by your stock appearance.

Eric - nice ride, really like a filled-out wheel well. I love seeing what other people do with their vehicles - especially when it's not my thing. Unique is cool - same old is boring!

I'm somewhat ashamed to admit, I didn't do anything with the liners- I let them rub until they wore through, and then I kind of tucked them back into place and they basically stayed. The liners were pretty thin and they didn't make much of an impact on the tires or noise at all, in other words there was minimal rubbing. Hope that helps. Thanks for posting

Man, your XJ is an inspiration. I LOVE the look of the boxy XJ with the flat-faced and boxy Wrangler wheels. They fill the wheel well so nicely, plus they're squared up with the edge of the XJ.
I'm at the point in my XJ build where I need to buy tires, and I'm trying to talk myself into a set of 18" Wrangler wheels, or talk myself out of them. But the same style of wheel came in 16", and 17" as well, and they had the "right" bolt pattern on the 16" ones. But those are older and harder to find, especially with decent rubber on them.
Anywho, here's my build thread where Basslicks and I are talking about it:

I think if you had those wheels with a 3" lift it would look really sharp. I'm a fan of the 16-17" wheels. With a 32" tire you still have plenty of sidewall but not so much that the jeep handles squirmy.
I totally get where people are coming from with the prices of the 18" tires but if you by the factory jeep wheels like the op you can pick up a set of wheels and tires for as low as $200 For 5 rims and 5 tires that are like new. At least in my area. On average they are $350-400 but they come up very often for less.
My gold jeep i got 5 wheels and 5 tires with lug nuts for $200.
These are great for a jeep that wants a more modern look but mostly street driven. Jeep has 3.5" lift
My white jeep I bought 4 spare tires at $60-75 a piece till I had a set of 4. These are BFG mud terrains off JK Rubicon. 3" lift
My current build is a black 2000 and I bought just the rims for $200. Which in my area is super cheap. I put some 34x11 on these 17x7.5 rims and it gave the jeep a nice modern updated look. I think the sidewall to rim ratio looks pretty sharp. Jeep has a 4 inch lift and not trimmed yet but soon to be 5 inch lift with the long arm pushing the front axle forward about 1.5"

that's what i thought when i saw it.
I for a time had chrome 16" Explorer wheels and 245/75/16 Wranglers on my first XJ (you can check the build thread), and it certainly filled the wheel wells, but it would rub in the back if i had passengers or cargo back there, and if i went over a speed bump, or even some city roads. Those butt-clinching memories of sudden rubbing noises (they wherent my wheels/tires, i was borrowing them, and threatened monetary, physical and emotional pain if I messed the tires up) surfaced when i saw the pics.
