Alternator went out on the way home, my digital voltmeter started dropping voltage as I was pulling in the driveway.

Good thing I got the Lifetime warranty one from O'reilly Auto.

Took the alternator out and had it tested at the nearby O'reilly's - FAILED
Faulty internal regulator/Output voltage inconsistent

Swapped in the new alternator, which was so much easier & faster since I relocated it to the top of the engine.

Started Dat Jeep and everything is good now.

Once I upgrade to the 160 amp alternator I will be keeping this alternator for emergency situations, such as this.

Fast Idle Override Switch

I did the fast idle override switch mod, here's how I did it.
I followed the above video from Enlisted Budget Videos.

What you're looking for is the first connector on the PCM.

Pin A12, on 97-01 XJ models it is going to be a gray wire, I'm not sure if it is the same on other years.

I spliced in a lead wire into this gray wire and connected it to a switch in the cab.
(This photo does not show the heat shrink I used on the wire, but I did)

This is the temporary location of the fast idle switch. I mainly wanted to quickly rig this system up just to verify the functionality.
I will be rerouting the switch to a point yet to be determined on the dash.

With a flip of the switch the idle increases about 500 RPM.

Reasons to do this mod:

1. Higher coolant flow (good for warmer climates)
2. More alternator amperage flow (good for winching and off-road lights)
3. Faster engine warming (good for colder climates)
--Probably other advantages, but I haven't noticed them yet.

Valve cover prep/paint

BEFORE SHOT

Custom air box removed

Valve cover removed - looks fairly clean

Before cleaning/prep/paint

Taking a bath in degreaser

Cleaned degreaser of with brake cleaner to remove any leftover oils or grease

1st coat of paint on - 2 more to go then let air dry for approx. 2 hours

Decided to give the metal bolt caps a coat of black caliper paint I had leftover from painting the calipers

I'm glad I painted the bolt caps.

Reinstalled in the engine - looks great.

Painted my CB spring/coil/mount bolts using rubberized undercoating - doesn't look the greatest, but if it works who cares.

Hopefully this will reduce or remove the glare I'm getting from my lower windshield lights.

"If it looks stupid, but it works. It ain't stupid."

Antenna spring glare BEFORE & AFTER rubber undercoating

Dat glare though.

Sprayed with rubberized undercoating.

After a few hours of dry time.

Light test - substantially less glare, but tolerable.

GM Truck under hood light

Mounted my GM under hood light I bought used off of eBay. Mine was missing the magnetic bottom. I will find a replacement soon online.
I have it wired into the OEM under hood light connection.

I upgraded the bulb to a very bright LED equivalent.

Engine illumination.

Wheel well illumination.

power steering fluid change

Old fluid - looks more like chocolate milk than Ps fluid
Ran new fluid out through return line until fluid ran clean.
Steering seems tighter, if that is possible.
