I decided i wanted to do a little tune-up to keep things fresh in my 93 xj. what do you recommend for tune-up kits? ive been looking at summitracing and they seem to have some reasonably priced kits. they come with dist. cap and wires and some have spark plugs. how hard will it be to do bcz i only have simple tools. thanks for the help.

 

I have the Summit Kit and it seems well made. I was in your shoes a while back and looked at a lot of info for something so simple.

For plugs; Champion for the win.

 

no need to buy a kit just go to the parts store get some champion plugs and the store brand cap wires and rotor it will do just fine might as well change the oil and air filter while your atit and check all your other fluids

 

You will spend more at your local parts store trying to cpoy what Summit gives you. Even the cheap stuff adds up to just under $40.

Well, use this and it should help. Only need one socket for the plugs, everything else is plug and play.

 

On quadreatec and a few other palces you can pick up the Accel tune up kit. For the price its worth it, comes with new cap/rotor, plugs, plugwires etc. The wires that it coem with are the accel 8000 series, which are actually more than the kit itself when bought seperately. A little more tha nthe summit kit, but the 8.8mm wires are great.

 

trs80 is correct. the spark plug socket is all u need and then follow the diagram!!

I made the mistake of going to weaver and paid 36 for just the rotor and cap. I have bought kits from summit before when I had my 2007 mustang and they are better than stock. I will get above stock stuff for xj if possible unless its an emergency repair. Oh, and I wont be dealing with weaver after they sold me a wrong rad cap on purpose. This was after I replaced all of my hoses, etc., and spent a lot of money there. I think NAPA is better. I have used the 8mm plug wires and they are better than stock. If I end up changing out the air box in the future I will get a snorkel kit. I have an CA intake kit form my 07 stang and it may fit as far as the filter goes. Good Luck. My wires are old and cant be taken off without a wire puller. They have been on there a very long time. I did notice rust colored powder when I replaced my cap and rotor.
