my block just sprung a major crack in it and now i cant drive my 1996 Xj Sort but i efuse to scrap it even knowing with the money i have saved up and what i could get for it i could get something more reliable but im trying to find good sites for new Inline 4 cummin deisle motors and used I6 OE block maybe new on that to just depends lol any sites?

 

You're going to have to lay down some coin to do a Cummins swap. Shop Craigslist and check with local wheelers for a short block to replace yours.

 

that cummins swap ain't cheap and is heavy. OE blocks are easy to come by on craigslist and upullits.

 

Go for the Cummins of u have the coin. That's what I wana do after I grad.

 

Thank you for not scrapping it. But personally, i say do the cummins. Get as much info as you can before you decide. Its going to be a lot of work, but would be awesome.

 

You can get strokes I6 for 2,500 or factory complete motors for 1800

i was thinking about the cummins a while ago but i ruled it out because a stroker is a much cheaper option and will get more power. but less torque. but it doesnt matter because the cummins is so much heavier.

I couldnt believe the numbers people were getting out of a 4.7 stroker.

 

What were thy. I wanted to do a 4.7 or a 5.0 stroker in my xj.

 

275+ and 4.9s/5.0s are getting into the 300s.

 

Wow. I could get a 4.7 and easily turn 300 out of it with some engine mods.

 

I realy just wanted the TQ from the cummins but ive looked for some and honestly its WAY to expensive even for a used one thanks alot guys i think i might move to the stroker side not to expensive and i can always mod for TQ THANKS

 

do you guys realize how easy it is to make over 300hp with a 4bt? and how much more reliable it is than a stroker. and how much better on fuel it is. I could make 250hp without spending a dime on one. 300+ for a couple hundred, if you find some deals. at 300hp were talking 500ftlbs+

My 6b made 600WHP/1200WFTLBS in a 7000lb truck and got 17-18MPG around town 22+ on the highway.

 

only issue with the 4BT and gas mileage is getting the correct transmission behind it. most are stock with a turbo 400 which is meh and only a 3 spd auto with no overdrive. snagging a build 4L80e is doable behind them using the same adapter that comes with it for the turbo 400 however at that point you might as well just snag a 6.5L TD and marine 18.1:1 compression pistons would easily put you in the same 300HP/600lb-ft on a stock turbo. bump to a new turbo and you are easily in the 400HP range reliably. all that and you can grab the motor/trans/tcase out of an older chevy get the BBC mounts and call her good.

 

true. 4l80 would be great with a nice low stall converter though. I cant say 6.5 ever crossed my mind, or that I would ever use one, for anything, ever.
Im not going to start a diesel argument but higher compression pistons isnt going to make you any more power in one either. hell, we lower it to prevent pre-ignition in the real high horsepower stuff because of all the fuel, which is what makes the power.
