After it was tacked in place on the jeep, one of the ears we cut off was used as a temporary support and the passenger side of the brace was cut off. The angled flange portion of that cutoff was then cut to fit and brace directly from the receiver box to the sector shaft bearing block bolt locations.

We contoured it to fit just inside the steering brace. This took a few measurements to get right with minimal gaps.

This is pretty indicative of the build quality of the hitch. Lots of reviews said the hitch did not align with all mounting holes. Even after a lot of beating with a hammer, there were still uneven gaps. I threw in a few washers on the drivers side front to compensate. I converted this XJ from a RWD. There's no accident damage or rust. Even the windshield is original. I'm confident my unibody is as straight as you'll find.

The pry slots weren't getting enough leverage to split the case. I used a bolt and nut here to spread the case halves apart.

Power locks! These are the control wires loomed into their own standalone harness. I've got some work to do to figure out how I'm going to control them. My current plan is to integrate an aftermarket control system, as the stock system involves too many modules that would be a pain to integrate into the manual window doors.

I wanted to make sure I had pulled out that fiberglass bag that always soaks up water and rusts the quarter panel out. Turns out I already had. But I found a lot of dirt in the bottom, so I went to find out where it came from.

So I tried to do a ZJ shift handle swap. I had to use that hammer too much to be happy with it and still couldn't get it to shift back into park, so rather than adjust it I just went back to stock.

Lets move a little closer. The next photo will be viewed in the rough direction of this arrow. A totally stock Jeep would have a bag of fiberglass or cotton sound deadener stuck in here. This thing always seems to soak up water, so I had previously removed it.
