I got a NP242 Tcase today
I found Junkyard gold in Columbus OH today!
A RUST FREE 98 Grand Cherokee. Red with no clear coat issues. 4.0 looked well cared for.... until the headgasket blew.
Someone beat me to it and took all 4 doors, the hood, hatch, front fenders, all the trim and interior. Down to the carpet and headliner! It was beautiful. Sorry no pics.
So i pulled the T Case, NP242, the Double Cardan and driveshaft to the front diff I believe a Dana 30\35 and the standard rear driveshaft, to a Dana 44. I did not get any diff parts. (Rugged Ridge diff covers are ordered though!) All shafts have SPICER U Joints and move free and smooth. I got an undamaged Bezel. The crossmember and skid plate and a newish tranny mount. All at my VIP discount price of $125.
So any ways, I currently run a factory setup NP249 to a Dana 35 up front and a Dana 44a in the rear.
What parts or pieces are needed for sure in order to swap out? or do I have everything and it should just be direct replacement?
I dont think anything needs to be replaced. It changed gears smoothly. There was no metal or sludge in the almost clean looking oil that was coming out of the Tranny(female side) of the Tcase. I got the sensors too, but I forgot to snip the pigtails off the donor.
*please excuse the statement refering to trannys and what is coming out of them. This is not the place to discuss such disturbing topics of conversation.
Will I need to switch the Black plug with the Red plug behind the HVAC controls on the dash?
With my Budget Boost 3" pucks, do I need and SYE\HacknTap? Or is 3" just a baby lift! lol
Also very important. I will be mounting 33 x 12 Goodyears on soon, before the Np242 goes in, What difference will this make with the Dana 35 and 44a, NP 242, etc? Should I just hold out for a 231?
Thanks in advance!
Pics when I clean them up and Paint them and then when installed. Soon...

Your font axle is a dana 30 btw.The t case swap should be 100% bolt right in,Yeah you should remove the vic and change the plugs unplug the orange ones and plug up the black ones. But thats only to have the vic work right if you don't care of it does you can skip that. And you shouldn't need a sye but still could but the odds are low on that.Honestly the np242 is a little stronger then a np231 but the np231 has a bigger aftermarket. If you want to upgrade the t case shifter linkage http://www.mountainvistafabrication....age-ZJ2421.htm
