Horrible screeching and runs bad

I just bought this 98 zj 5 days ago I’m new to Jeep’s and on first start this happened I need to know what the noise is and if it’s a bad crank

Very hard to say, at least for me. I would start by removing the belts and try starting again. If the noise is still there you have eliminated everything the belt would turn. If the noise is gone then it is something the belt rotates. Don't run it for long periods like this as the water pump will not be turning but for short runs it will not hurt anything.
