Question 98 ZJ taillight mods

Hey all i need some help ive noticed there is a extra space in my tail lights in the bottom thats unused. i want to split the housing and put led strips in there. has anyone does this type of thing before. and if so how do you split the lens because i cant figure it out it seems to be different then most other car tail lights on how they are sealed and i want to go this route because i like the stock tail lights i hate the ebay ones they look super bad. TIA

It's not an unused section. It's a built-in reflector as required by law.
