Keyless entry remote barely working?
I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (4.0L) and I haven't been able to get the keyless entry remote to work any farther than having it pushed right against the glass. I just replaced the batteries in the remote and have tried to reprogram it but I still can't get it to unlock from a reasonable distance. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Right at the glass is about the average range it was an almost useless option. Range could even be a little or a lot less depending if the glass has tint. It's IR not RF btw.

Works like your TV remove. Sun light, window tints, angle, all this crap effects it. My Jeep had it when I got it, tore it out of the headliner after a year.
What would be a good replacement for this? I'd like to have a keyless entry system that works from at least 20+ feet away.

My 99 XJ works ok from about 15' or so a factory system and my 04 WJ will work from 30' away from it. Did the systems change in 97 or so in the XJ's, mine does have tinted windows.

I was having problems with the keyless remote on my XJ (aftermarket remote starter and locks). It had worked well when I got it, but it just slowly got worse. I replaced the battery and it didn't fix the problem.
Turned out to be the antenna was not fully plugged in so even though the remote was transmitting at full power, the poor connection at the control module shortened the range drastically. Plugged it in till it clicked in place and I get about 50' range outdoors and can unlock, lock, and start it from about 30' from inside the house.

You might want to try reprogramming it, it's easy...
1.) Start the Jeep.
2.) Hold the keyless remote up at the dome-shaped thing near the front overhead lights and press and hold any button on the remote.
3.) The red LED on the keyless remote will blink rapidly when programming has been successful.
