All things LED thread
So I know there’s a lot of separate threads about LED in specific places. But why not have a thread with all things LED? I certainly have a lot of questions on the matter. I would like to see what different colors look like in different areas. Which bulbs are best suited for particular areas and such. Different brightnesses and single or multi chips of the same bulb size used in different areas. Anyone else think it’s a good idea? Or maybe I missed it and there already is one. If so then please point me to it. Lol

Is this not a good idea then? Maybe post it in a different thread even though this is kinda aftermarket electrical? Come on people.

I have swapped all my lights with LEDs. I just out a upgraded flasher from the parts store to replace my 552 and it corrected my turn signal time. If you're doing your dash while it's out paint the side you do not see chrome so the lights reflect off of it much better than that factory grey. I love how mine looks! All green and there's blue and red radio

I was originally wondering how purple would look. Then I realized true purple bulbs are hard to find. Also I was wondering whether or not to keep the blue plastic in the shifter bezel. I went ahead and ordered two t10 base that we’re supposed to be purple. The one behind the blue looks purple but without the blue they look pink. I think I’m going to go with mostly red unless someone could point me to some good deep purple ones. Also my budget is tiny so I’m mostly shopping cheap from Amazon or Ebay. Going to do some trial and error I suppose.
Also I bought some less to try as reverse bulbs. I am very happy with those. I think next will be done lights since my dome lights are nonexistent atm.

Would LED's be a direct plug and play for an 86 XJ? This would be for the dash...

They make drop in LEDs for pretty much every bulb type out there now days. The only Incandecent bulbs left on my 95 are the License plate lights and the front 1157 blinker/marker bulbs because I ordered the wrong number of bulbs. , even the headlights are LED now (DOT stamped). I went full green interior lights (haven't done the dash lights yet) including the shifter bulbs. I used the Dorman 1157 bulbs in the back and they are pretty bright. Probably going to go with the same ones up front for the blinker bulbs. I stopped by Autozone and picked up an electronic flasher relay off the shelf. Works like a champ.

i would like to do something like these. The one in the second post is cool. Mine also only has the speedo and gas gauge, the rest are lights. Good stuff also in the link.

Cool. I don’t have dome lights yet. Need to remove the bracket from a parts jeep I have and then measure and drill and install it to the one I’m driving. I did just take the footwell light sockets from the donor and installed them. Threw in some 1157 incandescent for now until I can get some led. As for the rear, the dome light mounts in the plastic piece that also holds the speakers. That I probably won’t install until I install a headliner too. I installed one in my other 98 without a headliner and it bounces around too much. I might even use a couple of the adhesive backed led strips and just stick them to the roof and wire them to the dome light wires for now.

what year on the rear dome light? If it's the earlier fixtures you just pull two push on grommets and it drops right out. I had a 97 that had the earlier style dome/map lights but my 00 had the newer ones not sure when they made the change over. On my 00 the headliner didn't have to come out to change the lights either I just had to pop it out with a bit of prying.

Its a 98 .I just don't currently have a headliner. Therefore I haven't installed the "soundbar" as some call it. The headliner helps hold it in place. As for the front dome, it was originally a single light. Not the same as the ones with map lights. It attached only to the headliner. The same light was used in caravans and Dakota's.
And because I only have headliners for the style with a metal bracket on the roof and the dome with map lights, I need to install the bracket. Its going to be a while before I get time to remove, prep, paint and install a headliner. So for now i may just get some led strips.
