I have a Pioneer MVH-X381BT mixtrax radio I'm trying to hook up in an 03' Grand Cherokee and when everything is hooked up the constant power works but there's no function with the switch power. I can rig it to run continuously, but obviously don't want to kill the battery. Insult to injury... The fuse keeps blowing also. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

I also have two aftermarket tens and and amp but when its rigged to always be on everything works beautifully. Its It's just the switch power that isn't working.

SN - I'm new to the site so if I'm not explaining anything correctly or posting right please lmk and I'll go from there. I really appreciate any help.

 

Yellow wire, seems to be universally, the constant power for radio memory, you have that wire connected correctly?

Red wire, should be ACC wire for radio power, correct? That wire is fused at the fuse block?

You should have a black wire to ground, is it grounded to a known ground? if not, you make a new ground. Is the radio box/frame grounded by itself? if not, run a new ground.

The ACC wire, does it show 12v with the key in the IGN and ACC position? if you load the wire with anything else does it also blow a fuse?
Could be the wire itself it bad or the IGN switch is bad, or the connection at the FB is bad.

Is the AMP wired DIRECTLY to the battery, both POS and NEG to the BATTERY? if not, wire it directly, 8g wire IIRC.

 

I've done radio and sub installs in 2 grand cherokees and did not have this problem in either. I just followed a wiring diagram I found on Google. The remote wire for the amp should attach to a wire on the back of the radio so it comes on when the radio does. It sounds to me like you messed up the wiring.

 

If it pops the fuse something is fubar, easiest to just start from scratch with:

Thanks for the advice. Finally got everything working with the exception of my AC switch now (came loose accidentally in a fit that was pitched), but thats another battle for a different day as it's working mostly.

Turns out there is TWO different fuses for the radio. I guess when reading the diagram for the fuse box I didn't go any further once I found the first one that said radio. Once the 2nd fuse was replaced it worked fine. IDK why there were two but whatever, my radios working again.
