136amp alternator in renix
I'm installing a 136amp alternator from a 97-98 grand cherokee into my renix. I have two questions, what exactly does the brown wire on the factory alternator plug do? Also on the back of the new alternator there is two field terminals, what are their functions?

Hey guys I need some wiring help from those who have swapped the renix alternator to an externally regulated alternator. Everywhere I look people are doing this differently and saying they're getting good results but no real follow up. I have the vr101 reg and an old style ford reg with the iasf terminals on it. Any help is appreciated.

Ok so I am now using the old ford type regulator with the iasf terminals. I have it wired according to this diagram. At idle I'm steady at 14.78 and that does not change with throttle. When I load the system with everything (defrost, wipers, blinkers, 2 50w aftermarket lights, radio, etc) I'm seeing a steady hold at 15.78. Is this increase in voltage going to be ok, what will happen when I start adding a winch, more lights, etc. Can the ecu handle a steady 15.8V? On all charging systems I've seen voltage drops when a load is applied so again any help is appreciated.

Yes I have tried google, thanks for that. As I stated lots of people seem to try this swap and either have good or bad results. Those that seem to have good results don't seem to follow up.
I'm looking for someone with experience wiring an external v regulator and can possibly explain why my battery voltage is going up to 15.78 when I load it with all of the vehicle accessories. Voltage at the renix computer and alternator output is within .05 of the batteries voltage when charging.
What's weird is my volt gauge on the dash shows voltage going down when load is applied. I have it wired as above (brown wire not hooked up, the factory yellow excite/ignition wire is attached to the s+a terminals.)

That's a good option too, but I have a nd 136a alternator with h.o. Bracket and a ford style external regulator. Just looking for someone who can answer any of the questions I have posted in this thread.

Okay so I figured this out a while ago but wanted to get some real world data before posting anything. I'm continuing to use a vr166 (with iasf terminals). The alternator I'm using is from a 97 gc with the 5.9l but has a 6 groove pulley swapped onto it (I briefly used this alternator with my 98 2.5l).
I is unused on the vr. A gets power from a distribution centre next to the battery. S is wired to the factory igniont wire from the original alternator plug. F goes to a field connection on the alternator. This is different than my original wiring and what most people seem to recommend as it is no longer ties A and S together. The other terminal on the back of the alternator is grounded to the alternator casing.
At idle with no load I'm charging at 14.44. With all acc on I'm seeing 14.34 at the battery. I ran two windows and a seat along with all my acc on for a minute, and the lowest reading I saw at battery was 14.26. I am very happy with how this mod turned out, my lights interior and exterior are much brighter, windows and seats faster.
Any comments on the wiring are appreciated but please don't try to make this thread about another alternator that could have worked.
