I own a 1997 XJ and I recently started having an issue with my Jeep idling real high when it’s started. When you turn the ignition it’ll rev up to about 2100 RPM then come down to regular idle of about 900 RPM after a few seconds. I’ve read other forums with people having the same issue and the resolution is either cleaning the IAC and/or throttle body. I haven’t done either of the because I don’t think it’s the issue. Before I started having this issue I was wiring in an overhead console and I unplugged a wire from the kick panel fuse box. I unplugged it to get better wire management. Once I plugged the wire back in is when I started having the issue of it revving high when started. I thought maybe the computer needed to re-learn something after unplugging that wire (yes I had the batter disconnected when doing all this). Anyways any ideas of what the issue is and how to fix it? I’ll attach a picture of the wire I disconnected. Top wire is what I disconnected.
I agree you need to clean the IAC first. A high idle is most often caused by the mechanical function of the IAC which on every jeep i've owned has needed to be cleaned. Only other advice I can give is to check your engine and dash grounds as recently those also caused me to have a high idle.
