I understand Metal's frustration with his TH. He's had a lot of issues with it. But this thread reminded me of a 60 Minutes show I watched last night on the Autonomous cars from Mercedes Benz, and Google. I know Metal insists these are vehicles, and not computers. But it seems that before too long, they're going to be more computer than vehicle. And we're going to have to trust them with our lives. As much as a tech geek as I've been all my life in my electronics careers, that's not going to be easy for me ... even though I know the technology is getting better day by day. And I must admit, even though I love my TH and so far (4900 miles) it hasn't given me any problems, the hacking issue and the tranny issues does cast a bit of a negative light on it. Add to that huge companies like VW, Toyota, and General Motors all hiding major issues for years until they get caught ... and you begin to wonder if you really CAN put your trust in your car and it's manufacturer? I'm cautiously hoping so.

Well I don't know for sure if this is on topic or not, since the thread is "teething problems" ... but so far, in about 5000 miles, the only issue I've had with my TH is the weird "hunting" for the correct speed when I'm going down a fairly steep hill with the cruise on. I do this every day on my way home.
The cruise is set at about 56 MPH. You can feel the car let off the gas about 1/2 way down the hill. That part is fine of course.
The weird thing is ... when the car levels out at the bottom of the hill, you feel the car lurch forward a bit, then shift to back off, then shift back up again. It does all this in about 4 seconds. I suppose it's a matter of the cruise control's speed module talking to the transmission module, and the two of them trying to meet in the middle.
I attribute it to the 9 speed software. Although, I've told my dealer than I've also noticed that when the cruise is on, the car can gain as much as 7 MPH when it's going downhill. To me, that's not right. All my other cars have always managed to keep the speed within ±3 MPH on hills.
I've gotten used to it, and sometimes I just CANCEL the cruise before I go down the hill and then turn it back on once I've leveled out. I wish it didn't do it, but I don't feel it's enough of a problem to take it into the dealer.
Unless the car begins doing other weird things, I'll live with it as I'm happy about the rest of the TH so far.

I've seen mine gearing down going down a hill with cruise to keep the speed right. This was not the case with my Patriot. It would gain speed. So far mine is doing what it should and I agree that it's all software and hope that upgrades fix any bugs. My down and uphills are mountain passes around here and are several miles long. I do use the manual speeds downhill on these to reduce break wear.

I call this a teething problem but maybe it's not. Unless I clip my seatbelt I get a very loud annoying bell at startup. I think I already cancelled the seatbelt on continuous warning so it's not that. Anyone know how to get rid of this? Turning down the bell volume would work too.
