I don't have one of these, but this is the reason I really don't like my 2012 JK. Too much relies on a CANBUS computer. I have a 1998 XJ, just bought a 1994 XJ 2dr. I am regretting buying the JK, but I thought I wanted a new vehicle. I haven't decided if I will keep it or not. The only issues I have had have all been electronic glitches. Sad that even the real Jeeps are weaken by electronics. I will be putting my money into the two XJ's rather than the newer one.

I don't see why manufactures seem to think that cars have to be these electronically controlled, techno wonder, rocket science, do-it-all, computers on wheels.
Cars are just a means to get you from point A to point B, they don't have to be so ludicrously complicated.
Just one more reason I love my XJ.

Stuff like this only makes me wonder how these cars will be running in 10 or 15 years I know I'm gonna get shots fired at me for this but they should never put it on a car if it can't be fixed by the average person in their driveway

and i was wondering the same thing, how long will this new world gas engine last, i posted that in another thread... in the first year ive had it , its had some down falls, but the pros outweigh the cons..
i am wondering if it will live as long as a maintained 4.0 h.o.??
i ran the heck out of my 96.. and just minor issues.. standard stuff is all i did to it.. so yes.. that still is a standing question time will tell..
if it wont last... we have wranglers and xjs still alive... im not beyond going back to an xj or wrangler.. lol..

I completely agree. Unfortunately, people are more and more demanding and don't care how long it lasts. (Smart phones are a perfect example.) Numbers say that people are keeping their cars longer than ever before, but I'm not sure I buy that.
There are lots of people I talk to that just cannot understand why I choose to drive my '93 XJ with manual locks and windows, without nav, etc. with 281k miles every day over buying a new car. Though I do have a heated seat kit to go in it. haha. I have to laugh at their $400+ car payment + full coverage insurance. I get to use my money for fun stuff.
I don't care if someone else wants a new car. It's a luxury item. I get it. They're nice to road trip with, and the doors seal, and the passenger tires aren't noisy, and some of them even get better gas mileage than I do. A new car just isn't my thing. No hard feelings for those that want one, my hubby just bought a brand new car. haha.

so.. having this trail hawk that gets great MPG.. its the best of both worlds, comfy, fast, active drive lockII is awesome, 15-18 mpg in 4 low.. lol.. and up too 50 mph at 3krpm in 9th gear.. which is super smooth and tourque-y ..
once you really drive one.. and make it perform.. youll come around..
also, these things are tough.. but.. how long will they last..? is a good question..

understandable why you want what you want, but, this KL owner wanted a KL TRAILHAWK, a stock one.. because i dont mod..and i really got tired of maintaining an older vehicle.. (my 06 xj) and 08 unlimited wrangler sahara) which beat me to death..

I am actually glad that my XJ is pre-OBD. If the car makers actually designed cars to be truly reliable, there would be no need for such things as check engine lights or plug in diagnostics.
Apparently, it has already been demonstrated that one can 'hack' a commercial jetliner with a simple smartphone and gain control of the flight controls. That is frightening...

You wouldn't even have to break a window. People can hack into the vehicle's computers and unlock the doors. Scary stuff. I want a hidden switch in my Jeep that must be flipped to be able to start it.

The best hidden kill switch is one that's labeled something stupid and out in the open like rear window washer or something stupid

My 96 keyless entry uses an infra-red signal. Maybe it could be hacked by those ancient push button TV remotes..
