Default MaxxCare or ?

Hi - I have a 2014 Jeep Cherokee KL. It's had its share of issues - many. New trans, new radio, new HVAC, shifter issue, and the list goes on and on. Anyway, it's kinda stabilized (except for trans - it still has issues). So I'm thinking of keeping it till it dies.

Have Zurich full covered ext warranty but it runs out this year. Was looking at Ziegler Chrysler factory warranties - MaxxCare. Are they the cheapest to get a factory warranty or are there better options? And does Ziegler deal on the warranty quotes? I got a quote from them - of course its crazy high in price.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated!!

Chris

Have you looked into whether or not it's even a good idea? OR are you just assuming that it's a good idea? I don't think you'll find any reputable financial advisor or consumer advocate who recommends extended warranties, EXCEPT if you have a notoriously unreliable model.

My 2014 is trouble. My extended warranty save my butt multiple times. Totally worth it.

I think that only refers to LIFETIME. I got a quote from Ziegler today - not lifetime. Max is 7 years.

These articles are kind of theoretical. A first year vehicle is a good case for a warranty. My Cherokee is a 2014 with a ton of issues. Just had the PTU replaced under my extended warranty - that alone paid for it and then some - not counting the other 50 things I've had to have done. Prob should have dumped the thing, but I like the way it rides and the interior along with the many creature comforts - mine is loaded to the max. But the trans is a total piece of crap along with the software that controls it - already had a new trans put in too...so first year is a good case for a ext warranty. I also have a warranty on a Toyota. It was cheap and that too paid for itself. With these newer vehicles that have tons of electronics, a warranty is highly warranted. Price out just the main computer in the Cherokee. Crazy. So I don't agree with those articles at all. I prob can find articles that support my comments - everything is on the internet! haha but thanks for sharing - appreciate it!

That would fall in the category of "a notoriously unreliable model".

I'd check to see if your state has a lemon law.

Cool

....I'd check to see if your state has a lemon law.
Lemon laws generally apply to ‘new‘ vehicles, not sure about applying to one that was purchased six years ago. Even then, it’s not about a “notorious” vehicle but about whether the dealer can fix the issues. Having a lot of issues would not qualify for a vehicle replacement unless the dealer won’t fix them. I’ve been on five different Cherokee forums for years and don’t remember anyone ever mentioning getting a “lemon law” replacement for a 2014 model, even when physically new. But then again....6 years old.....

Glad the OP has the extended warranty, it seems to have paid off for him.

.

You are mixing two things. The "a notoriously unreliable model" refers to the wisdom of buying an extended warranty. They do not pay off for the vast majority of people. They are a rip-off. The only time they pay off is when you have a "a notoriously unreliable model" where the repairs are far in excess of what is normal. That appears to be the OP's case.

Lemon laws have, in some cases, been applied in cases where there is a continuous history of defects beyond the usual warranty period, providing those defects are documented to have started within the warranty period. It costs nothing to check into them, and has the potential of saving him thousands.

Of course, the best way to save those thousands is to avoid buying Fiat products in the first place.
