I would have your batteries checked (yes, there are two batteries - main one and a secondary one for the start/stop feature). I own a '19 and have replaced my main battery already. Good Luck.

Thanks for the reply - Does the Jeep Cherokee have two batteries? Though that was only the Grand Cherokee?

Any Jeep with the start/stop feature has two batteries.

ESS started in 2016, btw. Regular cherokees only have a single battery.

Same here. For the average owner, it provides no benefit at the cost of being annoying and adding another point of failure. But it does game the EPA driving test into showing better numbers.

I believe the information above is incorrect.

Not every Jeep with ESS has two batteries.

My 2018 Jeep Cherokee (KL) Overland V6 with ESS has ONE battery - under the hood in its traditional place.

HPowell2019, where exactly is your second battery? Have you actually put eyes on it?

My friend's Grand Cherokee (~2021/2022) has an additional (smaller / motorcycle-type) battery underneath the passenger's seat.

I believe the Grand Cherokees with ESS have the additional battery, but the regular Cherokees from 2014-2018 do not - maybe they added the extra battery to regular Cherokees in 2019...?

Still waiting for someone to verify the claim that every Cherokee with ESS has two batteries - I would be anxious to change mine if someone could direct me to its location...

deactivate your start/stop function permanently. I had to replace my battery once and after I changed it I disabled it and haven't had to replace my battery since 2018. I also don't have to worry about the annoying start/stop at every light, it will save me money on not having to replace the starter for it failing faster than normal and gas wise I don't really see much of a difference with it activate it or deactivated.

Years ago, I bought a device that plugs into my ODBC which disables the ESS so I don't have to manually push the button to disable it every time I drive.

Not asking about that...

Asking where my second battery is or if I even have one.

Someone claimed EVERY Jeep with ESS has a second battery. If that is true, I would like to replace it.

I own a 2018 Cherokee (KL) Overland AWD with the Pentastar 3.2L V6.

I think we've already established that's not true.

Really?

I see speculation and guesswork (mostly on my part) - aside from one user who claims in no uncertain terms that 'Every Jeep with ESS has two batteries' and my own observations that my Jeep with ESS does not seem to have a second battery.

Isn't there anyone out here who actually KNOWS?

If I am wrong and indeed have a second battery for the ESS system, I would like to know where it is and test/replace it ASAP (as would many other users I'm sure).

I bet other users who peruse the forum would also like knowing this information as well - it benefits us all.

What actually does harm is when someone posts incorrect information as fact, then doesn't backup claims or answer follow-up questions...

That person was wrong, as evidenced by the fact that the 2018 KL does not have an extra ESS battery.

This thread deduces a list of Chrysler vehicles that have a dedicated ESS battery based on applicability of the relay used by the ESS.

Thank you so much - I was having trouble finding that information.

There is a LOT of conflicting data on this issue.
