Angry Engine Shutoff Issue

Hi everyone!

My 2018 Jeep Cherokee has recently started shutting off basically while I am driving the vehicle. When this happens the car dings, battery light pops up and the screen displays, "Shift to Park Or Neutral Press Brake + Select Gear."

I took the car to the dealership and of course the issue isn't occurring so they can not diagnose and fix the issue.

Has anyone experienced this? If so, what was the fix?

No :/ this is why no one at the dealership can try and diagnose is. No actual “code” just that message.

I had this happen years ago. The dealer ended up finding a bare spot in the insulation of a wire under the car that would occasionally hit the metal frame and kill everything. Never did blow any fuses, which made it tough to find.

Cool

KLs are very dependent on their electronic controls, and insufficient battery voltage is a common cause of the OP’s symptoms. Yes, a 2-year old battery can go bad, and even a load test may not indicate a problem - but it should be tested. Loose battery terminals commonly contribute to this issue, they are notorious for working loose or not being tightened sufficiently. Remove the cables and carefully clean the terminals and cable ends, then reinstall and tighten securely. This may, or may not, help but it’s worth a try.
