9 speed auto (sport Mode)

Vehicle 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk.
In sport mode changing gears manually is the transmission restricted to 6 gears and is the drive split 40/60 front to rear

From what I have read, yes, sport locks out 7-9th gear, auto or manual, and yes to the power split

Does anyone know the reasoning on why they do that? Is it just too many gears to keep track of? :/

7 - 9 are overdrive gears
