Yet another new guy
I just traded for a 1989 Cherokee Limited 4WD. One owner in excellent shape. Still has the original floormats and keys with Chrysler key fob.
But with anything this old, it has a few problems and hopefully I'll find the answers here. I'm a fair to middlin' mechanic, so maybe I can help out as well.

Not according to Wikipedia. I was thinking that in the late 80's Jeeps were sold at Chrysler/Jeep/Eagle dealerships.
"On March 9, 1987, Chrysler agreed to buy Renault's share in AMC, plus all the remaining shares, for about US$1.5 billion (US$3,031,195,079 in 2013 dollars[8]).[1] AMC became the Jeep-Eagle division of Chrysler."

Scotty16-My keys are AMC as well, but on the original Chrysler key fob. And you are right, in a real world sense, since it took Chrysler years to incorporate the AMC company. I would guess that 1990 and earlier was primarily an AMC product, since these would have been already on the books.
ckysodkorn_xj-I don't know if I would have been interested in the '98, no offense. I just liked the '89, and it being a one owner in amazing condition really sealed the deal.
And thanks for the welcome! This has to be one of the most active forums I've eve been a member of.

You know, I'm curious now as to what the old key fobs looked like.
My '91 Laredo has the big ugly IR sensor in the headliner for a key fob, although I don't have one ... I'm wondering if I should make use of it.
