Trying to join the Cherokee nation...
So, all signed up...time for introductions. I am in the market for a Jeep Cherokee and through the power of Bing ( recent convert from Google, may even try out Scroogle ) found the forum. I looked around a bit and it seems this may be the place for finding answers to all those Cherokee questions I am going to have.
I am looking for a daily driver, 4x4. I currently drive a 2007 Toyota Tacoma 4WD, short bed. Love the truck, but times they are a changing and I want to reduce my monthly nut as much as I can...without sacrificing coolness...obviously. I started looking into M1009, Army Blazers...very cool, very minimalistic, right up my alley, but they really are a true hobby vehicle with not many daily drivers on the road. And with no A/C, leaking roofs, and rusted floors...my lady and the two little ones may not make it far in one. So, I kept looking and ran into an old flame...the Cherokee. A buddy had a Cherokee Chief in High School, a friends family had a wagoneer, and I always loved the square body. Seems like a perfect fit for me.
The problem so far has been the range in price in what I am finding in the marketplace. I am seeing everything from seemingly way overpriced jeeps at dealerships, to suspiciously underpriced private sales. Like this craigslist ad below...

Seems like the guy dropped some coin on that rig and its being sold real cheap.
Currently I am looking for a basic ride, no need for a lift or any extras...yet. I would like to upgrade here and there, but out of the gates I would probably prefer something basic and solid, under 100k miles if possible. Under 5k Federal Reserve Notes would be great to...but that is questionable it seems.
So the search continues, hope to get some help here.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone...any advice on searching for that first cherokee? I am looking to make it an everyday ride, but dont want to overspend ( i.e., there's a few local 98-99 with anywhere from 65k to 112k mileage priced around 7-8 thousand, stock...seems high )...but I don't want to go to low and end up with a project vehicle just to keep it on the road.
