Default Old Man Peeks In

I'm retiring next year and am going to build a 97-ish Cherokee.

I've been driving a 90 model GMC 4X4 Shortbed ever since I bought it new in 1990, so I can make the claim that I take care of things. My new Cherokee will take me and HER to Alaska (from Mississippi) in the summer of '11. That'll be my 50th state to visit.

I'm going to pay about 5 - 6 grand for something in pretty good shape and put another 10 grand into it.
Maybe I can get 5 grand for my truck. Maybe. It's got 350,000 miles on it, but it doesn't show it.

I've read some of the posts around here. You guys are good company.

Me?
I'm a trucker.
A certified auto mechanic.
A licensed homebuilder.
A licensed home inspector.
A sailplane pilot.
A sailor.
I play the guitar.
Sing.
Whistle.
Can recite "The Cremation of Sam Magee" in its entirety.
I spent 9 years in the navy.
Went to Viet Nam where I boarded junks in the Ma Kong Delta.

Welcome from anther old man. Old in years anyway. I have been lots of things too and have an XJ I put lots of money into and take good care of. They are good rigs and can be comfortable and very reliable. When you get your XJ, let us know and we can help you with the mods you will need to make that trip. On my list of things to do to by the way.

Hey Russ!...

I'm Joe.

Doing lots of things is the ONLY way to go! I have never been unable to find work, and I'm sure that applies to you, too. A lot of my contemporaries have been caught out in the rain because they just weren't flexible enough.

Think like a beaver, I say......find a stream (income, in human's case) then make sure it keeps running and dam up some of it so you'll have a place to live. But make DAMN sure you keep it running!
