Newbie from Houston, '95 XJ Sport 4.0
I thought I already posted an intro, but I can't find it, so I guess not. I've had my 1995 XJ for nearly two years. It's currently on it's third engine, and I've got my fingers crossed. The engine that was in it when I bought it apparently had a small crack in the block somewhere. It would run okay for about 30 minutes and then overheat. Bought a junkyard six through a buddy that owned a mechanic shop. It was a great deal. Unfortunately, it apparently had a flat cam. Or something. We never did get it to run right. Getting discouraged, I tried once more, another junkyard powerplant. This one has been up and running for over a year, so I guess it's okay.
My XJ has a 4" lift, and I'm running 31/10.50-15 Falken tires. I'm trying to improve it as I can afford to do so. After we got the freakin' engine problems solved, my next step was rebuilt brakes, serviced the AW4, the NP321 and the axles--stock Dana 30 up front, D35 in the rear.
This XJ has seen a lot of hard road. I think a teenager must have owned it, because I had to have the front end rebuilt. I don't know anything about front end work, and it's a daily driver. I have to have it up and running to get me to work. The 4x4 shop replaced the track bar, every rubber grommet in the front end, new shocks, and aligned the front end. It drives like a dream now.
I'm thinking hard about how to design a front winch bumper, and saving for a winch. Any suggestions about winches are much appreciated. I'd prefer Warn, but I'm sure there are good alternatives that won't break the bank.
Anyway, glad to be here. Is there a Cherokee club in Houston?
