Default NEWBIE, HELP

just joined the forum, looking to buy a cherokee sport, about an 00', or 01' found a few for cheap, with under 100k miles in pa. i need some advice as far as what to look for before i buy. i have to travel a few hours to look. i dont know much about jeeps. i would like to do a few mods to it, as far as a small susp. lift, tires, wheels, spare tire, and top rack. upgraded headlights, cold air intake, or k&n. fog lights. so keep in mind i am a newbie that needs all advice about jeeps, but i can figure out the mods after i buy. sorry for the long post, and thanks for any advice you can offer

welcome to the forum! well first off look at the body all around especially under it, make sure there is no rust or rotting anywhere, check under the carpet for the same thing, make sure it runs good(test drive it) look under the hood make sure its fairly clean, check the unibody and see if it looks like its been wrecked, thats all i can think of right now, im sure some of the "veterans" on this site will help you more. as for mods lets cross that bridge when you get the jeep, well good luck hope you find a good one

When you are looking check the fluids and see if they look clean. May be an indication of how well they were maintained. You live where rust is a big factor so don't be afraid to crawl under it and check everywhere for that illusive rust demon.

thanks for the help so far guysjust picked up a 00' sport with 117k on the clock, fairly good shape other than brakes, tires, and some small stuff. i will be trying to fab a pod style air filter cause we have a bad mice problem here, and they will fill the air box with stuff. but i do have some ??'s

1. what engine oil, a co- worker sells amzoil, any problems there?
2. with 117k miles should i do a full tune up. plugs wires. diff. fluid.
3. a/c only blows cold when it wants to. any ideas, maybe expansion
valve. i scanned for codes, but nothing came up.
4. is there any sensors, or other part that i should carry with me, that
are prone to failure, like a cam sensor, or oil pressure.
5. the oil pressure guage never reaches 12:00 straight up, for 40psi. it
stays at like 20psi or so. or about 10:00. should i put a test guage on
just to be sure.
sorry for the long post, but i am use to ford powerstrokes, and know nothing at all about jeeps, so please school me all you can, thanks, scott

edit: front speakers dont work. looking for the stock, good, cd player, and factory allow 5 spoke wheels if anybody has any.

amzoil is fine for the motor basically whta ever you want tor un in preference to oil evryone has there own opinion at that mileage i would do a full tune up just to be safe think of it as preventitive maintenance not to sure about the ac dont know to much about that as for the oil pressure check it with a mechanical gauge the guges in these rigs are notoriously inaccurate as for the sensors i dont know that you will have to carry any with you if you want to the cps iac tps and nss are the ones that give the most problems but i dont think its very economical to carry those around with u i would clean your iac and throttle body to be safe
