New XJ owner in SoCal!
Hey everyone! I shopped around for a week, looked at 4 XJ's and decided on this 91 that I picked up for $1900. Pretty much stock, 4.0L H/O motor with the Chrysler MPI. AW-4 auto tranny, NP231 t-case with Command Trac, Dana 30 front, Dana 35-C rear with limited slip, 3.55 gears, 244K miles, but it's really in great shape! Engine compartment is fairly clean, although there's an oil leak I need to track down. Looks like a front main seal (oh joy...), but I'll powerwash the undercarriage and see for sure. Jeep passed smog with excellent numbers for being 21 years old. A/C blows cold! It even came with a pretty nice Premier sound system with Alpine's in the doors and a power amp and sub. The PO is also throwing in a CB with a built-in swr. Gotta order a Firestik!
Drove it home (about 30 miles) and it drove fine....until I made a turn from a red light. Clunk, clunk, clunk from the rear end. Sticky clutches in the limited slip. I poured a bottle of additive in to get me by until I can do an axle service and install these: http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/...ed_p_1660.html That'll happen after the lift and tires.
Already did my first mod. The PO had 4 switches mounted in 2 different locations. 2 to run the light bar, 1 for the auxiliary fan, and 1 for the A/C. I like my switches in one place and I like them to light up so I know they're on. The little storage tray behind the shifter looked like the perfect place to mount some illuminated LED rockers.
Original switches:
The new switch mock-up:
I used a plastic electrical j-box cover as a mounting plate.
Had to make some room for the wiring connections:
The finished product:
I like it!
So for mods in order of importance:
Paint the trim
4.5" Lift
31" Mud Terrains
Axle service with new diff covers
Custom front and rear tube bumpers
Roof rack
I'm in Riverside, CA so anyone from OC to San Diego to Big Bear....lets go wheelin!
