About 6 months ago, I was at my parents' house to console them as their dog had passed. In the conversation, it came up that in recent years, my father only had used his completely stock, 1999 XJ to take his dog to the vet and the groomer. Since the dog had passed, he no longer saw the need for two vehicles and mentioned selling the Jeep. I immediately offered to buy it since I knew that he had bought it new and had taken good care of it. He wound up giving it to me with 78k miles on the clock. IvI' used the forum to answer some questions, so decided to join.

Anyone that has a stock 99, with only 78 k on the clock, given to them is too damn lucky for this group.
Just kidding, welcome!
Congrats to you on getting the XJ - Condolences to your parents for the loss of their dog.

Default It's a work in progress

While it was relatively well cared for, it is a base model 2wd and 20 years old. I have replaced all of the hoses, the belt, radiator and thermostat, electric fan, fan clutch (it was running hot), brakes including calipers and hoses (had a cracked piston RF), added nerf bars, Hella sealed beam replacements then LED headlights and fog lights, in the stock location, Viper remote start/alarm.
There is a list as long as my arm of things I'd like to do, but are there any specific, age related things that commonly need addressed? It needs the defrost damper door repaired, and just yesterday, I picked up an instrument cluster (it has idiot lights) which I am going to put gauge faces and LEDs in before the swap. I'm considering painting all of the black parts with bed liner. Long term, if I can find a suitable donor, I may do a 4wd conversion. This is my first Jeep, so I'm sure there is much I haven't thought of yet, but this forum will, I am sure, provide plenty of ideas.
