Talking new user - hello!

We are a growing Jeep family. Our first was a 1 year-old '97 XJ Sport that my wife drove. The XJ went to our daughter when my wife got a '06 Liberty. Now our daughter has a '09 Wrangler and the XJ had been passed to her little brother.

The XJ has seen better days and has become a building/learning project for my son. I help with $$, tools and experience. So far he has changed the spark plugs, water pump, steering stabilizer and battery terminal clamps. We upgraded the wheels to aluminum honeycombs and bought new Firestone tires for it. Yesterday we went to a u-pull JY to get a NP231 TC to modify with SYE before we swap it out. The JY had some 231s and a 242. We didn't get the TC because I wanted to do more TC research, specifically about compatibility across Jeep models and years. Plus - the available 242 had me thinking about upgrading to Select-Trac. We did score some good lift-gate struts that we will use to mod the hood to an auto-lift.

I've been lurking and learning for a while before I registered and I just want to say thanks for this forum and all the posters who have shared so much information! I want to give back so here are a couple of things I found helpful:

1794 page Lubrication & Maintenance Manual for a 1997 XJ
http://www.scribd.com/doc/61558532/97XJ
I'm sure there are manuals in there for other Jeeps. I found this one on the first search.
update: Wow! just searched again... How about a 1947 page FSM for a 1999 XJ?
http://www.scribd.com/doc/80821158/1999-XJ-FSM

Searchable database of salvage car auctions. The pictures are useful when comparing body style changes, trim packages, and other stuff across model years.

So... sorry for the looooong post & thanks again!

Welcome, sounds like a great learning and bonding experience for you and your son. It's something I look forward to doing with both of my sons. Oh yeah, and thanks for the links.
